If there’s already a thread on this, please excuse me. My GSP took an indirect hit from a skunk this weekend. I did the peroxide/baking soda/ dawn. That cut it back a bunch. My issue is that her collar and my alpha 200 handheld are putrid. How the heck do you get the smell out of those? Any help with that and/or dog would be greatly appreciated.

Add a whole bottle of blue suave shampoo to the mix and re-treat, including the electronics. Not sure if I hate skunks or porkys worse?

Get a new collar and swap it out on the training collar. Throw the stinky one away. The handheld will stop smelling someday. Include some odormute when you order the collar and keep it in your dog emergency kit for next time. Or two if you got room for it. I put the box in a ziplock and tape it up so it don't get busted open in my kit. Dog gets sprayed on a road trip, you will be glad you have it to use before loading the dog. Otherwise everything in contact as I am sure you know will smell for weeks. https://www.gundogsupply.com/odor-mute-scented-3-oz.htmlI wish a trainer with a pet descented skunk should start offering skunk avoidance training.

You don’t . The skunk smell stays for a year or more in plastic . Especially soft plastics like collars. Get a replacement plastic collar and live with it. To treat the dog try a bottle of hydrogen peroxide in a hose garden sprayer.cover dogs eyes and soak him. Works as good as all the fancy formulas. Also somewhat useful are douche bottles they are a little trickier cause they are predominantly acidic and will irritate eyes but you can carry a bottle in your collar bag if your dog decides to try the skunk thing again. May I ask how you got the transmitter skunked?

Cool Mint Listerine cuts the skunk smell pretty good. I've used it on dogs and collars, clothes and dog vests.

I’ve got the skunk smell out of my training collars. Fill the sink with water and add a little bit of bleach. It won’t hurt the collar, and it’s the only thing I’ve found to remove the smell.
Shopping with your husband is like hunting with the game warden. Experience is what you get, when you didn't get what you wanted.

Wash with dawn liquid soap & fresh air. Everything else just seams to mask the scent.

I don’t know if this is even possible for you but I got sprayed right in the face once when I was a teenager. I buried my shirt in the garden for about a week or 2. Dug it up and shook the dirt off and then washed it. Zero skunk smell after that. So I know it works on fabric but not sure about plastic.

I wonder if the stuff they say kills all odors, called Poof?

Never done it, but you might try sticking the collar and handheld in a big bag of kitty litter for a week or two. That stuff absorbs pretty well.
