We're about to have a nice cold snap, going to last about 2 weeks or so, maybe longer .
I make a bunch of soups, chili, pot roasts, smothered steaks , lasagna, and enchiladas.
Today is spaghetti sauce with elk meatballs, western style. I use roasted green chiles instead of bell pepper.
Sauce just got put on the stove and should be ready for late afternoon or this evening. Might do tri color rotini for the noodles.

What are some new ideas for cold weather cooking?

This is not even the coldest temps we have coming and might get down to you all, get ready.

I love a good Carne Guisada. You can make it from scratch pretty easily or use the HEB marinated meat.

If we happen to go to either Sam's or Costco, we always get at least one rotisserie chicken for making soups. Both red and white chicken chili's are awesome with Fritos.

Chicken & dumplings, pozole (I like pozole verde), and sopa de fideo are always good. I like a good menudo once in a while but it has to be done the way I like it. Of course gumbo but I like that year round, same as chili and seafood bisque.

When it’s that cold there’s nothing better than a hot bowl of soup. Any ingredients that you like will work , google is your friend. up

Poor man's stew is my favorite. One pound of stew meat cut into small chunks and boiled until tender. Add one large diced potato, one small onion and one can of diced tomatoes. Salt and lots of pepper finishes the pot that is good for four servings.

Think I'll buy a big chuck roast, cube it up and make chili. With Cornbread

Pot roast with biscuits

Rigatoni with meat sauce, garlic breadsticks

MENUDO, corn tortillas, onions, cilantro and limes.
