When you have a buck that has split beams at the base on one side, where is the legal inside spread measured from…the inner beam or outer beam of the split? I’m asking because I have a deer on my property who damaged his right beam when he was in velvet as a 1.5 year old. He is now a 2.5 year old, and he clearly has developed split beams on that side. The inner beam is shorter & resembles a pronghorn’s horn (I nicknamed him “Pronghorn” because of this feature), and the outer beam is longer and has the more typical curve of a deer antler. I would really like to harvest him in a couple of years, because I think he would make a really cool mount. However, I live in an Antler Restriction county, and don’t want to end up getting in trouble because one beam on that side would be legal, but the other one might not measure up to a 13-inch spread. Appreciate any info or advice regarding this situation.

Measure at the widest spot between the two 'normal' beams. From the sound of it, you'll be fine as long as he's >13" at that time.
