I'm the new guy lol just trying to figure out all the ins and outs of the forum. Thanks for having me.

A little bit about myself, and my family, we are a Christian family with my wife of nearly 20yrs and our 2 teenage boys. I'm a 14 yr Army Veteran, have been hunting since I was able to walk with my dad and now I carry on the tradition with my oldest son (19). My youngest son shot his first deer and decided it wasn't his cup of tea being the animal lover he is respectfully. My son and I haven't killed a deer since I was retired from the Army in 2017, but that's not for a lack of trying. Deer leases are just out of our budget and we have been unsuccessful on public land. Hoping to meet new people and learn something from the crowd here and maybe some day find a place to hunt.

tlk, I knew I was leaving out some important stuff, but just went blank and could not think of more. A possible senior moment…and I left out deer hunting with a 223.

Lol thank yall, I appreciate it. I'm looking for something from central Texas due east and on down south down 45 to the Louisiana border would probably go as far north as Athens. Don't have a huge budget at the moment due to living off of my pension and waiting to start a new job at Samsung in Austin.

Let me suggest doing cull buck and doe meat hunts until you find an affordable place to hunt.

Son & i did the hunting thing. WMA's
Twas more about spending time together.
Daughter wasn't into it. We gave her a camera
She sat in stand took pic's & several times
took climbing stands out on WMA's. She did like the hog hunts.
We did the fishing thing.
Tis about spending time. Things they like doing.
They grow up way to fast.

Thank you sir. Yes we have been on a couple public places up close to the DFW area but didn't have any success. Now we are down here in SE Texas until I start working again and I am lost on where to go around here. Time is limited to scout due to us taking care of my wife's grandfather during his last days so I may be a day late and a dollar short.

Also, all factory ammo is junk that can never match the accuracy of reloads, the exception being Tikka rifles that will shoot sub-MOA no matter what you feed them.
