Have you hunted in Quanah? Any pictures of deer in the area or harvested. What other wildlife have you seen? Thank you!

Had a lease for a few years halfway between Quannah and Childress. This was 2010-14ish? We had lots of dove during season, but farmer had cottonfields. Lots of doe. Was easy to fill doe tags. We never saw muleys, but shot a couple nice bucks. No trophys, but nice deer. Had some turkey in the fall, but never saw or heard them in the spring. Friend of mine had a lease less than 3 miles away and shot quite a few muleys over the years

Depends on where from Quanah. We hunt and manage other leases around there, north on the Red, or south on the Pease, are good hunting but totally different; farther west, becomes a third different eco system...

Hunted a lot South on the Pease. As compared to the rest of the state of Texas, you'll see bigger bodies and heavier, thicker horns. I killed some nice bucks, plenty of hogs and of course coyotes on my river hunts. As you may know, we got F'd over pretty bad when a law was passed that effectively ruined public hunting within gradient boundaries on rivers such as the Pease.

I would consider Quanah a great area to start a search for above average deer. Get your feet on the ground, study Onx Hunt or Google Earth. If you have river frontage I'd say you're 1/2 way there to knowing it's good.

Do you have any photos or scores on the bucks. Roughly. Trying to get an idea of the deer in the area. Havent hunted that area at all.

You'll be surprised. Whitetail are larger than expected body wise in that part of the world; and they thrive in open areas, with little cover. The beginning of the breaks to the river make great hunting areas and mini-canyons. Some of the land west of 6 in that distance from town had a huge wildfire a few years ago. I don't know how the deer herd has returned from running from that fire. It's pretty open. And everything there has a stinger, teeth, or thorns.

I hunted Collinsworth County for years and yes the deer are very large compared to other parts of the state.

Are their antlers larger as well? What are we talking 120s to 140s?

Easily. That is not an unreasonable expectation at all. As with any place, you have to hunt hard, spend the time and do all the right things but you're definitely hunting in the right area to kill something greater than 120-140". If I were to get on the right lease in this area it would be with the expectation to kill a 150".
Here's one I shot on the Pease South of Quanah. Public land, walk in, no stand, no feeder, no hand corn, just preseason scouting and set up during rut. He's a little above average for what I would see there. The shot was tough, but I've definitely hunted harder for deer, shot this one day one of my hunt after heavy scouting preseason.

Thank you. I appreciate it. I was told 150s by a couple of people with potential of 160s here and there. Just wanted to confirm. Nice buck.

I didn't want to over sell it and dialed back on my estimation. Think of it as a region that Quanah would be in the center of. That area is where I would consider for a good chance at a buck 150">
