My boys went out in the water, a half-mile walk, to a duck blind that has been there for years. They settled in before daylight and at legal time got a few ducks. A boat with 3 other individuals came along about 745AM and wanted them to leave the blind. They said "No" and pointed to an empty blind a few hundred yards further. This other group did go to that blind, but not before a barrage of threats, including to shoot them. Every time ducks came in, the other party would start yelling and waving and shoot at the blind my boys were in. A few times the pellets sprinkled down on them or they could see them impacting the water nearby. They called the Game Warden. He asked for a Pin Drop and found them within an hour. He said this group was known for doing this and he had talked to them 3X this season. The wrote them warnings but told my boys he needs actual evidence and not just word against word to do anything further. Having their phone # from that encounter, the Warden called my boys yesterday. He said the same group had done it again, but this time two things happened. The affected party filmed everything from the verbal threats to the noise making, and shooting towards them. Also, someone got hit with a pellet hard enough that it left a mark. The Game Warden finally charged them with Hunter Harassment and some other violations. He was calling my boys 1) to tell them that, and 2) to say that the prosecutor asked if any witnesses or people that experienced this previously wanted to provide a written statement through deposition or come to testify so she can establish a pattern of this behavior. One of the boys agreed to provide a deposition and the others agreed that he should list them as his companions that were there. I'm glad the Game Warden and prosecutor are taking this seriously. Frankly, if you want to use that duck blind, be the first one there. My boys have seen someone there once before so they just quietly moved and went somewhere else. Ruining someone's hunt especially after the hard work of a long walk in wader and setting up everything is really sorry behavior from people who want to be accepted as adults.

It seems the waterfowl guys are always the ones having run ins. I refuse to hunt public places if they can be walked or driven to.

Seems to me (I’ll let LE confirm) the GW was being a tad lazy maybe. I believe if my neighbor shoots at me and I call the police it ain’t no “he said she said”

That sounds like a ticking time bomb. Probably good the Gamewarden got involved before they tried to strong arm the wrong old boys. Hopefully they permanently lose their hunting licenses and all their gear. Cull ‘em and move on. I will never understand what happens inside some folks heads but you can see some real jackasses in our public marshes.

There is no limit to the amount of money a man will spend to kill a duck and no limit to how much of a jackass a man will be over hunting ducks. Seen it many times.
