I received a Benchmade Casbah (4400SBK, Black Class) for Christmas. It's really nice and a very thoughtful gift despite I'm not a knife person. Aside from my Tyto in my kill kit I've never had a nice knife like this. Closest is a $50 Kershaw. This Casbah is in a different league.

Is Benchmade the company that, several years ago, did something "anti-gun"? I sure hope not; I'll have to look.

== Edit ==
I see that Benchmade was the company destroying firearms for an Oregon police department.

They got a bunch of grief by assisting their local police agency with melting down firearms that were under a court order for destruction. Police agencies obviously don't own facilities that can melt steel so they have to go to a private company. Most agencies have to pay to have this done, Benchmade did it for free so taxpayer money wasn't spent on the process.

Enjoy the knife, at least it was a gift so you shouldn’t feel guilty in any way. I sure like my benchmade.

they arent anti second, nor anti-police. They did support a few liberal candidates for local elections. With that said, those candidates were best option they had because of where they are HDQ’d. I wouldn't be surprised if they and leupold eventually pull a Weatherby and kifaru and move west. beaverton and portland not exactly business friendly period anymore

They started with making world class butterfly knives, hence the logo.

They caught grief over that but i do not think they should have.

Solid company with good products. I have seen them give Cabela's hometown heros and veterans over 40% off on a couple shopping weekends. Benchmade made up the difference for what ot was above the standard store discount those weekends. They included store employees in that deal as well.

You’d actually send the knife back to Benchmade for sharpening? Wow! Heck, just bring it to me, have a beer, and I’ll put an edge on it. I’ve been sharpening knifes since I was about 8 years old.

Yes I had an older one that got gunked up (internally) it was an automatic and needed to be disassembled and cleaned. They paid for shipping both ways. I only carry automatic knives and like the servicing factor.

Quite enjoy my Benchmade, and it's a knife that should last you a very long time. As you said, very thoughtful gift!

They also fully service a knife. So take it apart, clean it, replace missing parts, bend clip back into shape. A bit more involved than just a sharpening

^ This! I have several BM knives, never an issue with their customer service when needed.
