Tara is going on her 7th season, she is such a good girl, starting to get a little gray around the mouth. As a pup, I trained her that "here" she brings it to me, "place" she goes to her spot and holds the bird. Now, if I just hold my hand down she will bring it to me, if I do nothing she knows where to go. I love doing nothing to test her. This is my girl Molly 2009 (RIP 2015), trained her the same.. I say nothing, she swims right pasted me, goes to her spot, climbs up on her stand, holds the duck the whole time..This mallard was a pig. Molly was a big girl, Tara much smaller, that water was waist deep, that stand was at its highest setting..

Does your momarsh leak oil Ha ha no, that is the reason tho I took out the momarsh. Don’t plan on taking my GatorTrax out till it is fixed, getting a new motor for it. Sure is nice to have 2 boats.

Sweet little rig. I've been looking at getting something similar, just not sure how practical a little rig like that is in north texas. I i.agine you better be darn careful if the wind gets up much.

Yeah, it is not a big water boat. Even on a calm day I don't like taking it across the lake. I pretty much stay close to the ramp, close to the shore, wind protected areas/banks, etc...I will say, if you get in trouble on big water, it can handle it if you are on the throttle and keeping the nose up. I was in waves one time so big I was literally surfing... It sure if fun to hunt out of tho. What I like about it also it is impossible to get stuck. If you get stuck, just step out of the boat, and you are not unstuck. I like to target places that walk-in hunters can't get to, and big mud boats. It will run real shallow, and you can launch it anywhere.

Went in blind this morning, never hunted or scouted this area. Found what looks like a good spot, momarsh is great for going in blind.

What hp Longtail do you have on it? Do you trailer it or put it in the bed of you pickup? Looking at the specs online, how do you stay within the weight capacity. I'm 230lbs so once you add my dog, gear and motor I'm surpassing the weight capacity by at least 100lbs.

I'm 230lbs so once you add my dog, gear and motor I'm surpassing the weight capacity by at least 100lbs. The motor is a 7hp Subaru / Robin SP210.. The Long-tail is a Strump Jumper..It rides on a homemade trailer I bought from a THF member, it is very arrow dynamic.. As far as weight capacity goes, I have not looked in 10 years, but when I did, it was way too low. But weight is very important how it rides. 5lbs, 10lbs add or subtract, changes how you pack your gear (weight distribution) in the boat for optimal performance. I went from 215 to 175, huge impact how a pack my gear, and just overall how much better it rides.

What I did differently from momarsh manufacture, is I) spun the transom around 180 degrees, 2) cut transom down another 4 inches, and 3) moved it up a couple feet (towards the middle of the boat). The specs on the boat call for it to be hanging off the back. My changes made huge difference how it rides with a lot of weight.
The published official capacity was made I think by the coast guard, regularly thing…

Hunted a spot this morning no ducks, no problem, takes me a few minutes to pick up my 12 deeks and a mojo, so moved to another spot. That’s how ya roll small ball, ninja style duck hunting.

You got any interest in meeting up sometime this season, would like to see the momarsh in action. If you would like to drive it, see how it handles, we could arrange that in the off season at a local lake. You are 230 lbs, that is 55lbs more than me. I’m just imagining adding 55lbs and that would be a lot. But take away my dog, that 70lbs, now you are fine 15 lbs under. Every pound makes a big difference. Here are some short YouTubes of it in action., lots of these are 10 years old I’m still testing it. It runs most shallow just idling like the first video, the motor is perfectly balanced, I can take my hands off the tiller and throttle and it will idol straight no hands. This was my first test run..I go no hands here..

One thing I really like about this rig is built in dog stand, one less thing to pack. And when my dogs loads up out of the water, the water does not drain in boat.
One thing I have learned to do is keep the inside of my boat dry, and it is really not hard to do. Just let dog drain off before she gets in the boat, throw wet decoys on front or back of the boat, and before I get in, I put my knees on the edge, lift my feet out, click my heels, let water drain off my waders before I load. My boat stays bone dry, and that is just more enjoyable. If you do these things you can end up with a lot of water in the boat, and that is not good. If I see water in my boat, that tells me there is a leak, and that is hard to notice if you don’t keep your boat dry.

Thanks, I've got a kayak that I grassed up and it's a duck killer. I used it a ton in the 18/19 season and a little less in the 19/20 season. But those were the last years we had alot of water. But the thing the sucks about it is I can't take my dog with me while hunting out of the yak. I'd almost rather not hunt, than not Hunt with her.
I figured the momarsh was going to be just a tad small for me. Your post confirmed it.
Four rivers makes a similar rig, an EBADS. It looks like a good rig, has a 600lb capacity and can accommodate up to a 13hp motor. The hull weighs about 200lbs. Not sure I'm sold on the fiberglass hull.
County line makes some nice aluminum layout boats, but they are like 3x the money of a fiberglass hull.
They are both made in Missouri. I will probably run up there this spring or summer and look at both before pulling the trigger.

Give Josh a call at NTX Boatworks, FB page below. If I stepped up in size from my momarsh rig, I would be looking to him to make me something custom. Look at his photos of his rigs. He has been giving me solid advice on my new big rig, explaining the pros and cons of each motor, my options etc.. I like his focus of hunting and racing boats, if you want a boat to beat barney to the duck hole, he is the guy. https://www.facebook.com/ntxboatworks/
