So I go to a stand and the deer go to another one. Seems like every day. But at least the hogs show up. Got another one 90 minutes ago. Big, black and stinky. Not going in the freezer. At least I have something to hunt, and the weather has been great. If I can get a coyote, the wife has promised she’d cook me a big steak. But the coyotes are not playing fair either. I tell ya, it’s a tough life…

I wonder if that full moon is the real reason I’m not seeing deer in daylight.

I sat yesterday evening and saw exactly one button buck in 3 hours of sitting.

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

As I walked to the stand well before daylight, the moon looked like a giant headlight in the sky. I thought about turning around and going back to the barn workshop and make some more coffee. But the stand is in heavy woods, down a 130 yard shooting lane, and critters will feed there when they won’t otherwise get out into the open at other stand/feeder locations. All of my great logic, and I didn’t even see a bunny rabbit.

But, I got the hog this afternoon. I just knew something would be hungry by then. I just hoped it would be a deer.

Yesterday morning, after much thought, I went where I was sure deer would show up. I didn’t tell my wife which stand (didn’t risk waking her up at 4:45) I’d be in. When I got back to the house later, she said “what did you think about the giant 10 point at the feeder”. Well…I wasn’t at THAT feeder. Wouldn’t have shot him anyway. She watches those Tactacam camera pics.

I don't know. Sometimes when I hunt on a full moon, I see nothing. Sometimes, I see a lot. The past 2 days, I've seen quite a few deer. 1 of which might have been a shooter, but he didn't stay around long enough to get a good look. He was chasing does instead.

Full moon I would rather hunt 9am to noon than legal shooting time to 9am. I have killed some of my best bucks between 9 and noon on full moon days. See more deer that time of the day also.

I sat last night and saw 2 small bucks right as light was fading about 5:30, that was it.
I have my feeders turned down to 5 seconds, deer walk right by them for acorns. Only critters at the feeders are birds, squirrels & rabbits.
Gun season here in Oklahoma ends this Sunday till does only season starting December 19th. Then it's stick & string till January 15th.

We were out last evening. Saw a few hogs and a ton of deer.

The whole moon phase phenomenon is funny. People will tell you a full moon is great for hunting and a full moon is terrible for hunting, depending on who you talk to.

We’ve been hunting the solunar tables this year. Yesterday prime time was 11:42am. Big 8 came to the feeder at exactly 11:42. Wife put it down with a perfect shot and DRT. Evening prime time was 5:08 and we saw 5 different bucks in the area starting around 5pm. Who knows?!

Sounds like you’re still having fun and trying hard…and that’s what it’s all about. I still believe that the exact legal shooting time of 30 minutes before sunrise and that last 3 minutes before the legal 30 minutes after sunset are when I see that “hiding buck” with that said, you better have good binoculars.

That made me laugh, because that’s just what I did years ago, and the law of unintended consequences bit me on the butt. Time warp with me back to about 1980. I had a good Leupold scope and Tasco binocs. The Tascos weren’t much good at dusk, so I decided to upgrade. Found some Leica binocs that I couldn’t afford, but bought anyway. Went back home to hunt with Dad, and had a great place to look for the big buck. Toward dusk, here came the buck and a herd of does, and those Leicas were amazing. Brought up the 270 and could NOT find the buck in the scope. Could see him easy in the Leicas. Finally, I had to upgrade the scope. I think that now I have the scope/binoc thing about equal.

And, I am having fun. Hunting on our land and hunting from blinds I built (except for the 10’ Redneck Blind). And I just remembered that I could use some better chairs for two blinds. No padding is causing butt pain.

I went yesterday a.m. and p.m. The moon was brighter than the led light I wear on my cap. I saw 9 bucks of all varieties and 10 slick heads for the a.m. hunt and half that many yesterday afternoon. I pulled my SD card and looked at my pictures. There was a lot of night pictures the past few days with the moon being so bright.

Same here. Kids & I in the blind last weekend w/full moon. First hunt, goose egg. Evening hunt saw one big buck chasing does and gone before we could get on him. Next morning, two more shooter bucks (one toad) chasing does & gone before could get on him. I could have shot either one of them most likely, but I want one of them to shoot my trophy, and it's slower/more difficult getting a youngster on one quick but they're learning. Anyway, it's always back and forth on moon phases with me, hunting and fishing. Been out when predictions were poor and slammed them, been out when predictions were great and struck out.

Only one thing's certain, you can't kill them from the couch.

Shoot, my last lease in Duval I ran 7 feeders 12 seconds/day twice a day during season.....and 8 seconds twice a day in the off season most years, plus fed the roads & senderos. roflmao Between the deer & the pigs (& other critters), none of that corn ever stayed on the ground long.

I run 6 seconds per day, per feeder. Since both feeders are in the same pen, it’s technically 12 seconds per day. 2 seconds per cycle and I’ll have corn left over for the raccoons. Of course I don’t have the pen opened for pigs right now, so that part of the reason for left over corn.

I’ll open it up for pigs in late January, but turn cycles to 4 per day total at 2 seconds each.

Could be. I would recommend that you hunt midday as they tend to be more active at this time on a full moon.
Adios,

A whole new day. Went out this morning to hunt, thinking that this time the deer will be at this specific feeder. This was after a discussion with my wife, and she laughed and said they’ll be where you aren’t if your luck continues to run like this. But, off I went to hunt the sure thing stand, where I eventually saw a fat bunny rabbit. Back to the house, and the wife was laughing, and said to look at the camera pics. Deer at every stand but mine. This is irritating.

But tomorrow…..
