I have seen videos and seen folks successfully rattle in bucks. But it has been in South Texas. I have never done it, but really want to try it. Has anyone ever tried rattling in San Saba County? Our place is about 7 miles north of 190 between San Saba and Richland Springs. Any tips and suggestions would be appreciated. The rut usually kicks off around Thanksgiving and goes through December. Thanks.

I'd just try it. The worst that can happen is you run the does off for a few minutes.

Should be plenty of bucks in that area. Hit some horns together and see what happens. We use to rattle in Lampasas County with pretty good success. I rattled in a really good buck for my wife in Goldthwaite. God bless her, she couldn’t pick him up in the scope though. Only one way to find out.

It works in Brady, the land owner and myself got under a cedar and put my son out ahead of us bout 60 yards and the land owner started banging them horns and a Buck came out of the brush so fast towards us my son couldn’t get a shot, said he just filled up the scope. We all had a good laugh about that.He did get about 10 yards away from my son before he veered off. We moved a little further down and my son got one that we rattled in. It works, but I think the timing has to be right,he was out on Thanksgiving break.

Ive rattled several in in Goldthwaite, but we’re getting a little late in the rut. You never know until you try.

yep, timing is one of the critical points on when it works best. My BIL used to hunt east of Cherokee in northern Llano county, good buck to doe ratio. Best timing was leading into rut & during rut, it was amazing to watch him rattle and bring them in from a long ways, almost running over to top of us when they came in. we would sit still and quiet checking them out while they would circle looking for the action ... until they winded us.

don't be timid with your rattling ... thrash them hard, hit branches around you, shuffle your feet and stomp for a few seconds ... then wait and watch

Be aggressive - hard to make enough noise to emulate a true fight

Be patient - give each spot some time
