My memory must be off on the engine exhaust system but the upgrades made a huge difference in the truck’s performance. Totally understandable being born in 1804 and all.

Didn't know the 351C was in those ... and Flowmaster was founded in 1983. 351 Cleveland was not in them (not from the factory). A 351 M (modified) was standard with a 400 c.i. optional. I had a ‘78 and a ‘79 F150, one with 351, one with 400. Both the M version. When I went to parts store, counter guy always asked if it was a Cleveland or Windsor. They hadnt heard of the M version yet.

I would be impressed with an exact reproduction of an FJ40. That is a Land Cruiser.
Bob R I bought a new 1974 FJ40 when I got out of the Marine Corp. They were a tank, Traded it for a new 1978 full size Bronco. Do you regret making the trade? No regret. I was starting a family and needed something with a little more creature comforts. This was the first year that Ford made the full size Bronco. I kept it for 11years.

Yeah, well at that time some of the Ford engines were a bit confusing....so if you weren't a Ford aficionado you probably wouldn't be 'up' on the latest engine changes. But the the 351M-400 were the ONLY engines available in the 78-79 bronco. The 351M is just a de-stroked 400. Aside from the crankshaft and pistons...they are identical (use the same block, connecting rods..etc). The block was actually based on the Cleveland version, but with some modifications. My older brother had a '78 F150 short bed 4x4 with the 400 c.i. NP205 Tcase and a NP435 four speed manual. It was a beast for a 1/2 ton.

I am a GM guy, do not favor F*** in the least, and knew all of that already because I am a car guy. The M engine (stands for modified) is a taller deck version of the Cleveland. I am sure there are other differences. Yes, it's dumb that F*** made three completely different versions of the 351. TOYota topic turned into a F*** topic.
Pass the gravy.

The Duramax for the win comment was in the context of Ford vs Chevy. When the day comes (3 to 5 years from now) that i no longer need to tow 17k my plan is to get a 60s or 70s FJ40 done up to the nines and then abuse it off road dragging my zodiac into back lakes. I lived in East Africa in the early 90s for a few years and had a diesel Hilux that i abused and it never let me down. And for the record by abuse i just mean pushing the machine to its limits. Not to be taken to mean neglect - i am OCD about regular maintenance, filters, fluids, tires etc..
