That's the only shot I've ever used. Taught my two sons the same and now the grandkids. We don't miss and we don't have to track!

Long as you don't miss high it works great. 129 inch 8pt on my wall was only 2.5 years old but still best buck I have shot on my little 32 acre place I know the guy that shot it the year before and went just above the back on it and just hit muscle and bone over the main back bones knocking him down but when he started walking out it got up and ran off. I killed him the next year about 200 yards at the most from his shot location the following season healed but had a hole in his hide still and cavity above the back s big as my fist with bone frags in it, healthy otherwise.
If I positively don't want it to run anywhere it is high shoulder shot for me most of the time.
lf the saying "Liar, Liar your pants on fire" were true Mainstream news might be fun to watch

I had an aoudad hunter shoot a big ram at 150 yards with his 300 Wby in that area I call "no mans land".....too high on the shoulder. The ram fell over, laid there a couple of minutes, stumbled to his feet, and took off never to be seen again. Very little blood to follow. My personal fave is about 2/3 up through the shoulder. I don't care if I lose some meat.

I’ve seen countless exotics and animals get up after that shot has been made / attempted in the 25 years I’ve been guiding and outfitting. Theres a reason why I tell my clients to center punch the shoulders, or behind the shoulder depending on the angle.
