I had about a minute to consider this deer Friday evening in SW Young county. Decided to pass and now looking at the pics I am kicking myself.
Really cool deer.

Will be back at it Friday.

Good luck. Maybe he will show back up.

I’ve been in that situation before and end up taking him last day of season.

Definitely shoulda. i shot a 136" two years ago which has made me more picky.
Plus it's a one-buck lease.

So what do we think? 3.5 and 125? I'm the worst at judging my own deer.

I could see why you waited. He is one heavy dude but it's early in the season. I have always said, if you have to think about it, don't shoot.

Very nice buck.
It’s your choice, I already passed two good ones this weekend.

I know the feeling. I passed a real nice one this season. I don't call myself a trophy hunter, but I know there is potential for a real trophy on our place, already got a meat doe, and a lot of season left. Proud of myself for letting him walk, but If he shows again near end of season, he might die.

I think it depends on the quality of deer you see on your lease. Where I hunt in Mills county, we have the numbers, but not the size. I would have shot. If I often saw similar deer, since it is early in the season, I would have passed.

let him mature - he looks 4 - could be a stud in a year or two. As hard as it is to pass on a nice buck like that if he adds 20 inches over the next year or two you will have a true trophy IMO

You can't fix stupid

Agreed. Nice 4 year olds are in the most danger as they are very tempting to many hunters

If brown, that one would have been down. I've let some good ones walk also this year. Not to worry there will be others.

Big rump, bit of a sagging belly, protruding brisket and a little sway back. I bet that buck is 5.5 years old.
I am very picky with the small acreage that I hunt, but would have taken him in a heart beat.

The nearly kissing mains are really an attractive trait. And to stay intact thru the rut is impressive

When he walked out into the wheat I instantly whispered "shooter" under my breath. Need to learn to trust that instinct. I just overthought this one. Hope to see him again but we also have two wide 8s on camera that are are absolute hammers so I'm pumped for the rest of the season. Spending time in the woods with good friends is a blessing so if I just end up with a doe for the freezer I'm a happy man.
