How’s everyone’s birds and water looking ahead of this weekend?
End of October rains brought the local lake from 5.5 feet low to .5 foot low. All the vegetation is flooded and a cold front is rolling through tomorrow with more rain and north winds through the weekend. After missing early teal due to the drought and heat, it’s shaping up to be a great first few mornings!!

Hoping we get a lot of rain this week. I'll be out for snipe mostly, too dry to bother at my spot last weekend.

Our 4 acre pond north of Dallas (near the Red River) has not seen one duck yet.

I shut my water off last week. We scouted out of one of our blinds Saturday morning and we are still covered up. Lots of teal, wigeon, and gadwall. And saw about 15 mallards on Saturday.
But it shut off after about 8. Had 1 group of about 30 teal come in right when we stepped out of the blind. So we will just have to see what happens.

The lakes I scout and hunt are still low (most of them). Birds have not shown up at tank A yet but it is early. I'm planning on hunting another part of the state. I'd rather drive 3 hours than slog across thigh deep mud. May end up doing that anyway but at least there will be water.
No matter how high a duck flies a hammer still breaks a window.

Our water has been frozen then open for the last few days, cold coming in for the weekend though. We have tons of ducks on the ponds in town right now, they should start down with the cold weather coming. We're usually frozen up tight by now but not this year.
