Pretty excited to start the smoker build that I posted about a few weeks ago.

Particulars:

20" x 48" x 3/8" wall Cook chamber
20" x 28" x 3/8" wall firebox
4.5" x 40" smokestack
2.5" sq tubing frame

Piece of pipe I started with for cook chamber.

Cut to size

Plans I drew up in autocad

Any reason to buy a new tool - Evolution mitering cold cut chop saw... game changer.

[Linked Image]

Built a jig to get my legs exactly right and to be able to duplicate it.

Weld

Standing

Test fit - like a glove!

Called an audible last minute and changed the legs/frame. The one below is what I had originally drawn.. glad we changed it to the offset.

Those Evolution and other cold cut type saws work pretty well, but man are they loud. Looking good.

It’s been way too long, but every time we start a project something pops up.

Had a few minutes to work on a couple items on the smoker this evening.

It’s starting to look like I had envisioned. I am ready to fire this thing up!!

Thoughts?

That looks right on the money. What kind of heat deflector are you going to make?

Looks great. Can you post up a better picture of how you did your hinges?

Not 100% sure yet - I’m open to ideas!! How would you do it?

These are the hinges I drew up in AutoCad. Had them cut with the other accessories on a plasma table. Just a 1/2” rod through them.

Nice work!

That setup would set you back $5k from Franklin BBQ, just happened to see that on a BBQ forum this morning.

I like the Frankin pit design for heat coming from the fire box. He does a good job describing how he makes them and how the air flow works with his design. The 2nd video shows how the heat is distributed with 3 top brand smokers with different designs. Skip to the 7:20 mark for the results of the Franklin pit.

Got some other important stuff done this afternoon.

Firebox door welded on, grease drain designed and mounted into the griddle, hinge layout, etc. Had to make a couple trips to the hardware store for misc. items.

Truly hoping to get the firebox welded to the smoker tomorrow.

Looking good up Are you going to have sliding out food rack/grates in the chamber?

Took a quick video of this thing running like a dream, but I cannot figure out how to upload it.

Draws smoke and runs like a dream.
