In a hurry this afternoon, I caught the toe of my boot on the edge of the barn slab and went down. Skinned my elbow and cracked a rib, I think. Like you guys said some time back, when the SIL went down on his Mtn bike, it hurts to cough. And I sure don’t want to sneeze. Got grapple work to do tomorrow, I hope.

All in all, I think I got off easy. I wonder if it’ll hurt to shoot the Grendel tomorrow. We’ll see…

You best hit the ibuprofen.

About the only thing to do with ribs.

For at least a month.

I’d go to Dr and get some better meds.

It didn’t hurt right after I hit the concrete. I got up, did some cussing, and finished what I was doing on the tractor. Maybe it’s just a bad bruise. I can only hope. The good news is that pretty much all the important tasks are done. And I have a pile of good books. I can lay around like a slug if need be.

Got up this morning and the ribs didn’t hurt nearly as bad. I can cough now with bearable pain. Took Advil PM before bed and slept Ok as long as I didn’t roll around. Maybe it’s just a bad bruise. I guess I got lucky this time.

My Grandfather died some time after he fell off a ladder and broke his leg. My Dad died some time after he fell on concrete and broke a leg. My uncle told me once that it was important “to stay vertical”. I think he was right.

So…you guys stay vertical…and I promise to try.

I broke three ribs once, hurt like heck. A cough was the most painful thing I thought I had ever experienced, then I sneezed.
I was told to keep a pillow handy and hug it up tight against my chest if I was going cough or sneeze. I got pretty quick with that pillow, it helped a lot

That’s good news. Don’t found broken. Just keep the pain meds going.

Man, I understand now. I coughed last night and it flat hurt, and I thought to myself “please God, don’t let me sneeze”. Coughing still hurts, and I don’t want to find out what a sneeze feels like. And, I’m not hurt that bad, relatively speaking.

What did the MRI show?

I didn’t go to the doctor. I did rub some dirt on it. That, and Advil…

My Doc said it’s ok to take 2 extra strength Tylenols 3 times per day.

Tell ya what…10 days isn’t enough to heal a cracked rib. I hoped it was just bruised, but hopes and wishes ya know. Dang it…it hurts. Not real bad, but it do hurt.

I would think you have another several days before you start to see a decent turn in your recovery.
I took a spill on Saturday and broke rib number nine on the left side. Having been through this twice previously I knew the routine, there isn’t much that you can do, just hurt and wait. The wife (concerned it could be a bad break) convinced me to go to the minor med clinic, and the X-ray was clear, broken but in place. So I will be two weeks hurting pretty good then slow improvement for another month, or better. So for the next couple of weeks or so I will panic every time I feel a sneeze coming, man that hurts.

yep! did your side turn black? (nice bruise?) mine did.

Try more like 4-6 weeks to get back full to normal.

I suppose I should just go on with my outdoor life. Spent a couple of hours this morning using the pole saw, than a couple of hours on the tractor using the grapple to pick up what I pole sawed. Now for some big chainsaw work.

If there’s something I should not be doing, do let me know. This is my first cracked rib. My only general rule right now is to quit what I’m doing if it hurts too much.

if you can do all thet you are fine. I guess if your rib punctures your lung, you will know it's time to take a break
