Finished with the 6.5 Grendel loads, so now I’m going to load up a few hundred rounds of 223 this week, and I’m going to use the Win 41 primers. Never used them before, but the rounds I’ll load don’t need best accuracy. They’ll be for visitors’ use and for plinking and making noise. That said, any of you guys use the Win 41 primers? Are they about the same as CCI 450’s? Since I don’t presently load the Hornady 55 gr spire points and don’t have a favorite load, I’ll start low anyway and look for a decent powder charge, as always.

Very similar to the 450s

They all went bang this morning, and accuracy was decent with a bullet not known for great accuracy - Hornady 55 gr spire point.

The good news is that the load prints about an inch directly above where my 65 gr Sierra loads print. I can work with that.

great to hear. I've only used a regular cci's but as a hoarder I've seen some of these Winchster 41. I won't hesitate to get some the next time I see a good deal. I do also make some 223/556 for the purposes u stated. I make them with pull down powder from chad so I splurged a little on the bullet with a 68gr bthp..

I hesitate to even mention it because I do not remember any of the details, but I believe there were some issues with the Winchester 41s some time back. It may have been failure to fire or it may have been a leaky cup (cracks or whatnot), I just do not recall. I never looked into it further because I haven't needed to replenish. Checking lot numbers and the Winchester components website might be the thing to do.
