No, I am not in a mental ward, but a daughter works at one. She said things have been going along fine till recently, when one of the two TVs went out on football Saturday. She said things got loud and weird. Even crazy folks (my word, not hers. God forbid somebody calls em crazy) watch football. Said they all went nuts (pun intended) when Texas whupped Alabama. I wonder if that means more crazies support Texas over A&M.

Go spend a day in College Station and then a day in Austin observing the locals in each locale. You be the judge as to the craziness.

I thought all the hospital's were closed. Terrell = crazy Rusk = crazy criminal I’m sure there’s plenty more. There needs to be more. I think, which I may be wrong, that there are private and state institutions, but no more federal institutions since maybe the 70s

Go spend a day in College Station and then a day in Austin observing the locals in each locale. You be the judge as to the craziness. Well.....right off the bat, Austin has had the slogan "Keep Austin Weird" for at least a couple of decades. And I'd say they've done a damn find job of it. So pretty much no contest. Glad I don't live there any more.

I didn't know how many or if any at all were open. All I ever hear is they need to reopen the hospitals when referring to someone that needs treatment. Well, it's good to know that they are still open.

Well, it's good to know that they are still open. A person has to be really bad off to be committed to a state hospital by a magistrate. I can only think of a handful from my whole career.

I didn't know how many or if any at all were open. All I ever hear is they need to reopen the hospitals when referring to someone that needs treatment. Well, it's good to know that they are still open. Most of them closed in the 1980s thanks to 3 landmark rulings in cases brought by the ACLU. Those cases effectively got rid of the government's ability to impose indefinite involuntary commitment. Once that happened it was pointless to keep the facilities open. A lot of them were in disrepair anyway and were wretched places to be.

I think I had 4 people total. Ten facilities are still going and are very needed.

My last one lived in alleys in Como. She would run out and grab stuff off grills while people were cooking. She couldn’t even communicate and was essentially just feral. Her family gave the blessing for the victims of a burglary to cooperate with me because she was completely gone and couldn’t take care of herself. I arrested her and the DA did a psychological evaluation. A district judge committed her to Witchita Falls.
