Sucks. Bought one for a trip over to visit family in Louisiana. Supposedly it would hold ice for “up to 5 days”. What baloney. Two days maybe. Sorry I bought the dang thing. Igloo my uuuh, backside…
SO…what is a decent cooler that’ll hold ice for days that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg?

In this heat, I don't think there is one.

None will hold ice for day, pure marketing ploy. I use a 1 gallon frozen water bottle, or several small frozen water bottles. The gallon size is good for a couple day in my RTIC cooler. I change the small bottles daily. You can add a small bag of ice, then have room for your stuff.

I use one gallon anti-freeze jugs and tape the top lid perimeter space closed with freezer tape to seal it. Lasts much longer that way.
More drama.

x2, it makes a difference. The rotomolded coolers are worth it, pick one and buy it.

I buy rotomolds for their durability and longevity. They Keep ice longer but never as advertised.

Ozark Trails from wally world. 52 qusrt $133. We freeze 2 liter bottles and day before fill it to pre cool it. Then put in the cold food items, and put fresh frozen 2 or 1 liter bottles. For crushed ice and for drinks we use a smaller cooler. The latter will get new ice every day. The food box will last a long weekend if you can keep the lid closed

I’ll freeze a few water jugs and throw them in it the night before or if I’m in a hurry toss a small block if dried ice in it if I need it to last long term. I’ll also put dry ice in the basket when needed with the cooler loaded. Dry Ice is your coolers best friend,

It’s been 115 where I’m at for a week. Rodeo cool is the best you can expect after a couple of days.

I bring the cooler into the kitchen and leave it open the night before needing it. Seems to help.

I saw someone once that did a test of all the newer coolers to see which ones actually hold ice the longest. The Igloo extreme faired pretty well in thier test. But thier test was a cooler full of nothing but ice...like 54 quarts of just ice. I've actually had pretty good luck with the igloos. 1. Pre cooling is extremely important. 2. If there are things you will use later in the trip, put them in frozen. I.e. if I'm cooking 3 breakfasts, two of the sausage packets will be placed in the cooler hard as a rock frozen. 3. I find that if you leave the drain plug open, the ice doesn't melt as fast when it's not surrounded by water. 4. A beach towel placed between the lid and what you are keeping cool helps to insulate. 5. If all else fails, put a block of dry ice in the bottom. But, be careful doing this. The dry ice will freeze anything close to it.

Ok do this. Pre cool with ice. Dump leftover ice and water. Add new ice and items to cool. If possible place in shade and cover with tarp. Good luck.

After using roto molded coolers from just about all the manufacturers, the best cooler for keeping iced jugs the longest I have used is an old chest freezer that stopped working years ago.

If possible place in shade and cover with tarp. An old sleeping bag is mo' better.

For the price point I was always an Igloo fan until a couple of years ago, needed to replace my 54 qt, did not like the way Igloo latching system so went with a Coleman which lasted two years before the handle broke a short while back, time to find another one.

Here is what I learned to do. it is so simple and yes, it does add a lot - simply place newspaper or better yet, cardboard (case boxes work well here) over the ice at the top and inside the cooler. This simple, easy & cost effective step surprisingly helps bunches. Opening up the cooler the least amount of times also is big here.

Yep folks when you got to the cooler for a beer, do not grab one, get 3 or 4 and chug them to save the ice
