I have a family member with a temporary handicap placard. Today I was driving them to the store. Five handicap spots. All full. Not a single car had a placard or plate. How selfish and lazy.

I watched a lady at the gym yesterday. Parked in handicap, went in a worked out for a solid hour. I guess that extra 15 feet in the parking lot would kill her.

Not to create a tangent, but do you feel handicap restroom stalls should be treated the same way as parking spaces? I'll admit to using them sometimes but would never consider using a parking space.

You should try finding one on rainy days.

I can't argue your experience, but to me it is since I don't pay attention to those spots since they're not for me. Until now driving my family member around.

Yes, no different. BUT, like you I have used a stall but not a spot. Funny you ask though because in the parking lot today the family member was telling me that at their office the last two days they had to wait for a handicap stall that was occupied by somebody who did not need it.

Oh man, the things a non-handicap doesn't think about. Well, at least the ones not going to abuse the spots.

Not the same. Handicap stalls are just bigger and have grab handles. Strictly for maneuverability, not proximity. I’ll use one if there is no other stall available.

My Mother-In-Law had a placard and my Sister-in-Law would use it so she did not have to walk. After my Mother-in-Law died, I threw it away, lots of hollering and yelling afterwards. My response was, sue me. My wife said I was wrong for throwing the placard away, she received the same reply.

If I have got a gut rumbling and the handicap stall is the only one open, I will be using it.

When I used to ride the train a lot, funny watching people run from the parking lot to catch the train when they see it coming, I refuse to run after the train, just looks stupide/desperate... But what used to really annoy me was this one guy that would park in handicap, and I have seen him several times run to catch the train.

Guy, there are people that have handicaps that can run. For example, I used to work with a guy that only has one ear. That qualifies as a handicap.

This is the only complaint on me that was ever found to be justified. I was writing a ticket to a vehicle that was parked in a spot with no correct plates or placard, the owner came back and started whining. I said the spot is for the physically disabled not the mentally disabled so it’s not for him.

I thought the placard was just for the person issued it, not someone driving the issued person around.

If that person is exiting the vehicle, isn’t it all the same? If they aren’t, then you have a point.

For years, I was frustrated with employees using family members handicapped placards to park in handicapped spots. We asked the Ft. Worth PD what they could do and out of the blue, they showed up at our site and wrote a bunch of tickets. Not sure how they knew the placard didn’t belong to our employee, but there were some pissed off people.

Once again, I seem to live in a different world than some. I’ve never noticed most handicap spots full but maybe I have no reason to notice. What I do notice is how many handicap parking spots are NOT being used. Place in NB I know of comes to mind….
I always thought handicap toilet stalls just meant they were designed so a handicap could use then but never thought they were intended to be off limits to others. I try not to use them but thought I was just being courteous and thoughtful.

Oh I know, people are getting the handicap parking permits that do not need them. If you can run from a handicap parking spot to catch a train, you have no business parking in that handicap parking spot. That is JMO. Why would you need a handicap parking permit if you are missing an ear? My gosh, his one ear is probably better than both of mine.

The handicap toilet does not require a permit to use like a handicap parking spot. There is nothing wrong with using handicap stall.

My wife also has HC plates so I look at this often. I don't see much of that in my area.
