Two are in my back yard eating bird seed. I had to look them up on the internet. Never saw one before now. Goofy looking birds. This is a weird year for birds here. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2023/06/full-37680-392772-img_8914.jpeg) And are they good to eat? Asking for a friend…

We have them show up in Buffalo this time of year at our lake. Sometimes they will breed and we see the little ones. Seems they leave in August to early September. Would not call them tame, but they are more tame than wild ducks.

I have them at my house, they roost in the trees. Very tasty bird as previously mentioned but not the most wary of the duck species.
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

I have never seen them in north Texas, and I'm kinda glad about that. They are native to Mexico, and come to Texas, and over the last few years have invaded the New Orleans area, taking over parks and water channels.
Not much of a challenge to shoot, but they do taste good, I have read.

I had some last summer in Wise county. Didn't hang around long. I haven't seen them during the season yet.

They seem to love deer corn. I wonder if they plan to make a home here. Might as well.

Yessr, have always had them down here and heard they are expanding their range. They are good eating. Growing up we called them water turkeys. Like others mentioned, they're not hard to shoot.

They will leave, they migrate and do not like cold. Wimpy for a duck.

I told the wife that you guys said the duck was tasty. She said she hates duck meat, so I suppose that keeps me from violating some federal law on migrating birds.

Very tasty and fun to have around. Just wait until you have 200 of them around your pond. Duck poo everywhere....

Not much of a challenge to shoot, but they do taste good, I have read. I used to see a fair number of them in Parker County.

Shoot one and cook it up and tell her it’s backstrap. Watch her marvel at how good it is It’s been my experience that people who say Duck or Bear meat isn’t good, have never eaten it.

A lot of people just don’t like their meat to have any flavor.

Buddy and I were fishing at my pond and had 18 landed on the lawn right behind us. They stayed there even when we left for the house passing within 20 yards of them. Dumb as a hammer.

My neighbor at our farm has them around her chickens and ducks. Last time I sat out hog hunting a couple dropped in to eat corn from my feeder. Have been wondering what type of duck they were.

We're over run with them, guy in the neighborhood feeds them and they come by the hundreds, duck crap on everything. I think we're at their northern range and during the season they're further down south. I know they out compete our local wood ducks and take over their boxes. Watch what you wish for, I can't stand those things.

I like seeing them. Some years they raise young in the pond behind the house. Wife feeds the little ones bread. Although technically wild, they are pretty tame. Most of the ones around here typically leave around teal season. I do see them from time to time when hunting closer to the coast. Striking birds. I’ve never shot one.
