I'm putting this here because the Maxus is a waterfowl shotgun. I bought the hunter model 3" chamber, cleaned it and took it to shoot at skeet (notice I said shoot at). Well I was disappointed that after the first round the gun failed to eject the spent round. Maybe my reloads are too light, tried again fired off two and failed to eject the third. Loaded up fired one it faild to eject and the next round was on the ramp which meant I couldn't eject the spent round, dropped the trigger assembly and was able to clear the gun. So i went to the range store bought some factory shells, same thing. Packed it up and sent it to Browning. Do any of you own this gun? If so how does yours funtion. If you're wondering 1 1/8 oz #8 26.5 grains Green Dot

I have the original Maxus with 3.5 chamber. Sometimes lighter loads 1200 FPS/1 ounce or less don't cycle, but it seems to be better handling those over the years. Mine also likes being cleaned pretty often.

Kinda hard to say whats going on with it. Is it not ejecting shells? Or is it getting hung up loading the shell.
Some quick thoughts.
Action spring may need to get broken in with a few hundred rounds to cycle lighter loads. Did you try shooting any heavy loads through it?
Action spring could be gummed up from the factory, did you clean the action spring and tube? Its a PITA to do it, but needs to be done on new guns and every year or so depending on how often you shoot.
Gun oil you used may be crap. I have used hoppes gun oil for decades, a few years ago I bought some off Amazon. For what ever reason that oil would gum up after a month or so. Never had this happen, maybe I just got a bad batch or something.

Shotgun was new out of the box, another person suggested heavier loads as well. I cleaned the shotgun and sprayed all the parts with gun scrubber then spritz them with Stage One Shooters lube. Just finished loading 13/8oz loads for when it comes back. I fell for the advetising that it would shoot anything. I would have expected cycling problems with a 3 1/2" shotgun that's why I went with a 3".

I have an SBEII 3.5", it shoots any load, bought in 2008, abused, shoots better every year. My son has a Berrett, when it was new it would not cycle light loads, a shooting instructor at Elm Fork took it to the shop there, hit it with a wire brush (not sure what he wire brushed down), it has shot fine ever since, that was 15 years ago.

The Maxus has not been a good gun for 3 of my buddies that all bought theirs about the same time. Constantly having issues.

Browning sent me a new on under warranty and I bought an extra as spare just incase. as far as break in I cant recall doing much but I pheasant and duck hunt more the quail and dove, so Im sure i had a case of hypersonics or #6 golden pheasants before I hunted/shoot dove, quail or skeet loads through it

When it comes back from Browning, it's going on the swap and trade forum. If you want a Maxus 2 with a wood stock be watching for it. I've lost faith in it.

The manual for my shotgun had a recommended break in. It was a certain amount of heavier loads. I had some issues when I went straight to shoot trap with it, too. It eventually got broken in and shoots fine now, even at the range with lighter loads.
Do what you want, especially if you’ve lost faith in it, but I’d at least see if it needs to be broken in.
I just turned it on . I was looking bird dogs in the butt this morning.

Since this is a discussion about a new gun two months ago I bought a new Winchester SX4. Browning owns Winchester so the SX4 has a lot of similarity to the Browning line up. It is gas operated. First time shooting it I put three high brass shells in it and it shot fine. Then put 15 or so low brass dove loads 7 1/2 shot and it spit them all out. No issues at all.
