Recently finished a small roof leak project on the patio cover. I've always used felt paper in the past but did a little reserach and discovered the new (at least to me) synthetic underlayments that are now available. They start at about twice the price of felt paper but get very strong reviews when it comes to shedding water and adding a final leak barrier.

Yeah, when I had my roof replaced last year they used SHARKSKIN ULTRA. Its pretty neat stuff and has a 50 year warranty. Between that warranty and the roof itself having a 75 year warranty, I'll be dead and gone before I should have much to worry about.
