Spent the day getting ready for spring bear. Beauty day but the flies are already out in big way = time for bear. First step was to launch the Zodiac. Had some ice damage this spring so the dock will not be out for another week or two. Had to pull the decking off the fixed/permanent portion so i can re-build the 2 front cribs. A little hard to tell but in addition to some timbers being knocked out the two front cribs are no longer level and twisted slightly - always something:

Got the Zodiac launched:

Tied it up and got it ready at the winter storage spot for my floating dock. This will be my base until repairs on the cribs are done.

Once again opted to just go with the electric and seriously considering selling my 15 hp yammy and replacing it with 200 amp-hours of lithium. Not nearly as fast but so much less maintenance, tons of range and super peaceful.

On the water:

All set. Bait is whole corn mixed with a bit of molasses and jujubes. Also use carmel, vanilla and anise extract poured on rotten stumps as a scent based attractant:

Lane is about 35 yards long and i brush my self in on a stool wearing a ghillie suit with most of my body behind the trunk of a tree.

Miller time.

Either my 35 Whelen or the 45-70. Both hit like the hammer of Thor at that range. Whelen shoots 250 grain partitions hand loaded to about 2580 fps and the 45-70 launches 405 grain Buffalo Bore at 2000 fps.

Actually been cold (40ish) up to about a week ago but next 7 or 10 days are supposed to be sunny and 70ish. Ice went out on the lake on Apr 30th which is about average. Earliest in my memory was Apr 10th and latest was May 19th. Nights are still cool though with frost. Stars are incredible on those clear moonless nights. Nearest light pollution is 35 miles away as the crow flies and not a big place anyways. Nearest city of any consequence is over 200 miles away - not good place to have a cardiac event LOL.
