Best one I’ve seen yet. Well done to the photographer

That IS a great photo, but man, it makes me cringe. If that's a wounded Sandhill, they can jack up a dog pretty quick with that beak.

A trained dog is much more likely to be blinded by tick disease after hunting in warm weather than it is from having it's eyes poked out by a dead crane that suddenly came back alive after sending for the retrieve. Not mention hunting in warm weather or sunny mornings in rattlesnake country or teal season in alligator and moccasin habitat. All much more dangerous that retrieving cranes. That dog is living the life as it should.

I do know that that crane is holding his head up, though, and ain't dead. My comments are based on lots of bird hunts (ducks/light geese) down on the rice fields SW of Houston a good piece. Whenever cranes would come through and we would knock a few down, the guides never let their dog retrieve the cranes. Google is also filled with cautionary tales of only letting your dog retrieve confirmed dead birds. Are they overreacting? Of course, I'm also sure an experienced and dedicated crane dog is much less likely to be injured than a duck/goose dog messing with a very live and ticked off crane.

A Democracy is when two wolves and a lamb vote on the dinner menu. That is why this country was specifically not designed as a Democracy. We are a Constitutional Republic.

Where is this cover photo you speak of? Ive never seen any of them. Ive heard you see it when you sign on but I dont see anything. If Im signing on wrong I sure didnt know it. Ive figured out how to punch a buncha buttons on here and finally find it a couple times before but I dont remember how and Ive tried.

Thanks Kry. I guess ive got it set on favorites so it bypasses that. Ill try to remember how to get there but no promises. Now some one can teach and old schollie how I can see the past cover photos.

I can never figure it out either. That shot reinforces what I've heard about hunting Sandhills - if their head's up, shoot 'em again.
