Whats y'alls go to for comfortable/ durable hiking and hunting boots. I am finally in the postion to buy quality boots. Id love to keep it under $200 is there something in that price range yall could recommend?

I really like my Oboz boots, and they're in about that price range.

Are you going to be in real cold weather? Sitting a lot or moving a lot?

X2 on the Oboz for hiking/hunting boot. Mine are a warm weather style used for upland hunting.

I have a pair of Keens I like. Also have a pair of Irish setter Vaportraks that are ok.

If you up your budget just a little bit you can get a pair of Kennetreks, totally different league and will last a long time

It'd help to know what kind of hiking/hunting you'd be doing. Love my Irish setter upland boots for chasing prairie birds, I'll put 10 to20 miles a day on em chasing longtails and chikins but wouldn't want to be standing still very long in cold weather and definitely not a mountain boot. To be comfortable footwear needs to be purchased for a specific purpose and terrain in my opinion.

I haven’t tried the OBoz serious hikers but their casual hikers are my current favorite and I wear them almost everyday.
I ordered two more pair just in case they discontinued the ones I like…which are the Bozeman leather.
As far hunting type hikers I have gone to Crispi’s.

For super cold stand hunting I don't think you can have too much insulation. I buy rubber boots with the most insulation I can find for a decent price. 1600 minimum. The boots that get worn the most are my Justin snake boots. They fit exactly like my Justin work boots and I can walk all day in them.

Much better boot for your money than a 200 dollar boot.

I used to be a big fan of Merrell Boots. The last couple of pair I've had didn't last 6 months. My latest pair are Columbia, and they are holding up well so far. Had a great experience with Columbia when the zipper on my 3yr old softshell jacket failed. Sent it back to them and they credited me current retail for their website, caught the same jacket on sale a week later and bought two of them. Outstanding customer service.

As some are saying, depends on the use...

Crispis for rough mountain/hill country terrain...very sturdy but a little on the heavy side because of that...but I climbed snow covered mountains at a good clip with confidence I wasn't going to break my ankle and my feet stayed dry...kind of pricey but I was very pleased with the performance.

Irish Setter upland boot for the prairies, farms fields and general uplands; again, well built, comfortable and a little on the heavy side but my feet stay dry and the sole does not carry the mud because they do not have aggressive tread pattern with deep grooves which tend to pack full of mud.

Keen for everyday quick hikes and such...I'm not a huge fan of these boots but I can't really find anything bad to say about them...for less than $200 you get a light and reliable boot that keeps your feet dry.

I have tried a pair of Oboz...in my experience they were not comfortable but I believe it was because my foot does not have a big arch...otherwise the pair I had were as reliable as the Keens.

I bought a pair of Crispis, Kennetreks, and Lowas. All were extremely well made, but like mentioned above, all were pretty heavy and the soles were all very stiff, not much flex at all. I don't hike mountains all day and those boots may very well be superior for that type of hunting, I just didn't find them comfortable and returned them all. I landed on the Oboz as a compromise that fit my needs. Insulated, waterproof, much beefier than Merrell or the like, but not an extreme boot like some of the really high end stuff. I also find them to be extremely comfortable. Every year I mean to buy an uninsulated pair for early season hunts but keep forgetting to do so.

crispi has flex level options from 1-5. One being tennis shoe, 5 being like plastics
Zamberlan has flex level options 1-5
Danner has flex level options of 1-5
Hanwag has flex level options 1-5
Kennetrek has flex level options 2-5
Lowa has a flex level rating options of 1-5

moral of the story. Need to figure out how stiff you want, if you want re-sole able etc. then what is you foot width etc. Example Zamblerin and Hanwag have specific last for ultra wide feet. You just need to narrow down you options to those specific models then try them all on.


I have several pairs of different boot makers and several flex rating. Every thing is trade off, durability decreases with cost, but you may not want a heavy duty resole-able sheep type boot either so a light weight fast option may be a better fit.




If you are looking for a lighter flex but all leather boots that has good cross over as far as plains to mountains look at the Lowa Renegades or Hanwag ALTA

If only you had a another set with the BOA lace system I could steal...that's my favorite pair of boots at this point. Yes, I am wearing Bobo hand me downs...the Zamberlan with the BOA laces...awesome boots.

What size boots does Bobo wear? He must through a lot of them in his quest to win the THF Gear Nut award. If its around an 11 then Ide like to talk....

Oh, ho. DQ and I have something else in common. I think thats the same boot I wear, or maybe its 1200.

I asked Bobo for a boot recommendation ONCE!!! My feet hurt for eleventeen days!!!!! Food for thought!

12. My arch’d flatten-end a while back and I cleaned house. Im also get insider discounts on a few brands, those comes with strings attached and return policies or reselling can be tricky. I am blessed and get to hunt out west a bunch, so I do put some wear on boots.

one of those pairs have been resoled 3 times. The ones on the far left are ultra stiff for sheep country, ones on fair right are more like tennis shoes for spot and stock archery mule deer hunting(I doubt they last another season, very comfortable ultra light boot but I dont see them making over 200 miles total.)

boots Judd mentioned are the Zamberlan Lynx and they are exceptional boots. Sale time of the year you can pick the non-boa version up for 280’ish.

Leopard is the name of the ones without the BOA laces...spend the extra fr, the boa laces are a dream.
