Setup another tall bow blind today. Easy peasy with the right equipment. That makes 4 tall ones outa round poly tanks. Two more to go this year. Great weather and great help to enjoy a very productive day.

Thanks, Creek. up
Yes it’s a windmill. They work ok if you can get em cheap. Not splayed out far at bottom but ok if tied down good. They get so narrow towards top you have to stop way short to get a very wide base. Guy I got it from had widened the platform at top. Tank overlaps a good bit but doesn’t hurt anything. Tank isn’t centered cause ladder goes up tower so needs to be like that to get in. May change the ladder and/or getting in/out system but it’ll hunt as is.
Tie downs are 1/4” steel cable/rope that I got 100’s of feet of from a forum member for free. Boltguy on forum sells hardware stuff and I got real big turnbuckles with open ends for about $7 each and they are 60ish at Lowes/Atwood’s type places.
Disclaimer for Hud-yes, duct tape was used in the making of this project. Used to hold outer 4x4s in place while drilling and bolting tank to platform. Inner 4x4s just for floor support and duct taped(only) just until it went up.

Very nice FR.

Hud is just jealous of that set up because he knows if tried that at his place it would get tipped by a cow. Or a spotted pig elmer

16’ to floor. Most are 15 or 16 and one is 12. No magic numbers, it’s just what we had avail. I’m new to bow hunting and it seems higher is really a big help. Carries scent a ways before it drops and they just down have you in there normal line of sight very easily. I’m not sure if over 10 makes much difference but my gut feeling is that it does.
KMon taught me you can get TOO high making you miss the front lung if shoot a little high and miss the back lung if shoot a little low. At this height it shouldnt be a problem unless he’s super close.

I did on others and not sure why I didn’t on those.

You do what works for you FR. I've found that 6' to 8' is plenty high enough. Of course the wind needs to be in your favor & windows blacked out on the backside of the blind, but the key that I've found is that if the deer can see under the blind for anything approaching from the backside, you are high enough. They will glance up at you if you make a movement they can see or you make a noise, but overall, that height works best for me. And you don't need to compensate for elevation at that height for your arrow.

Thanks for sharing free, love the ingenuity getting it standing. That setup in the truck bed looks real interesting.

Curious how far you placed it from the feeder? I'm considering setting up a small feeder a couple months before archery season near a blind that we mainly use for rifle hunting. It's got bow windows so I figure rather than use a pop up blind elsewhere I may just try adding a feeder. It's only on a 5-6ft stand, curious how close you think I might be able to get the feeder with the scent issue you noted?

I like 6 foot for bow hunting box blinds. I don’t have near as much problems getting winded in them as I do 16 foot up in a tree stand.

Interesting enough comments on the blind height that I will circle back to that when I’ve got more time. For now I’ll address 0619s question.
The truck setup may not be special for a guy that does mechanical type work daily but for a hobby it has just about everything I could need. It’s more of a lease work truck than a hunting truck.
In regard to your feeder distance from blind question I will say I’m experienced with a rifle but not with a bow so others should chime in. Besides that I will say that for scent considerations the distance is likely the very least of your concerns. At normal bow distance like 20 to 30 yards I would assume there’s little scent difference within those parameters. I shoot a crossbow and use 25 yards.
I’ll offer unasked for advice on what you’re trying to do though. Assuming you have a feeder for rifle distance then a second feeder wouldn’t hurt but there may be a work around. I use a remote control bucket feeder that I can easily move around to whatever rifle stand I hunt and just put it 25 yards out. The deer are already coming to rifle feeder so just set out bucket feeder daily and push a button to set it off as needed. If you use regularly they should get used to it but even if not they will coming running from anywhere in earshot. Works great and I can’t believe everybody doesn’t use it. Use for rifle hunting also. Kind of like hand/road corn on demand.
Edit.. If you don’t need to use it at a bunch of different places then you can just leave it there and set it to go off just like any timed feeder(just doesn’t hold much.)

I bow hunt exclusively all year. All my feeders are 40-60 yards away from my blind. Whenever I go to fill my feeder or change out a camera card, I spread corn in front of my blind at 20 yards (I put 3 - 4 large rock out, one each in my window shooting lanes @ 20yds). When it's time to bow hunt, the deer are familiar, but not conditioned, to come look in front of the blind for food. And when I hunt, I spread corn around and between my 20 yrd rock markers. Even in the am before sunlight, I know exactly where to spread my corn...around the rocks. And when it comes to drawing back, I know they are at 19, 20, 21 yds merely by where they are standing in relation to my rocks.

Woj -- I really like the rock idea, i'd figured to use bushes and trees, but the rocks will probably be way more accurate. Thanks for the tips.

Free -- The remote control bucket would probably work great. I definitely don't need to break the bank on a feeder that'll be mobile. I have another setup on the lease that somebody left a tripod stand at -- also a bit far from the feeder for bow hunting -- but with a bucket and a remote I could easily move it to that area if I wanted to have a go there also. Are you just using one of those from Cabela's? Thanks for the tips y'all!

The remote control bucket idea is a good one, I've not seen that trick/hack.

0619, I don’t know of anyone that makes one like I like. I make my own. A control box with all electronics(timer, motor, spinner) and attach it to any 5 gallon bucket(or whatever size.) “The Remote” comes with receiver and transmitter.
I order all that from West Texas Feeder Supply except for bucket. Real people answer phone and really work with you. Maybe $200ish all in. Don’t have to have a timer if you use remote control only so can save money there but I like to have it.
If you decide to do it give me a shout and I’ll walk through little hints.

I’ve mentioned it on here before but nobody really comments much. I think it’s greatest thing since sliced bread. Many ways to use it. Can hang it on feeder pen for on demand hand corn.
It’s real interesting using it on wheat field with 100 deer in earshot. A dominate/hungry group will come in and clean it up while another group watches. First group leaves and hit button again and here comes second group. Some corn hogs keep coming back and some don’t. It’s like a game trying to figure out how long to wait for non shooters to walk away before you hit it again.
