Finally getting into the thermal game now that im on another lease with decent nilgai population. Im going to buy the ATN OTS-XLT 160 2-8x19 for scanning. And for a rifle optic, im limiting myself to basspro so I can do the 0% interest. So from there im looking at the AGM rattler or one of the ATN models that are more like traditional scopes. Which would yal recommend from your experience? I like the compact size and light weight of the rattler. Also would the 2-16 be worth it over the 1.5-12? I wont be taking long shots. I shoot plenty of game with a 4X ACOG. I'm also thinking of just getting the scanner and then using my coyote reaper light/scope combo for shooting, which ive done for hogs but it does spook them sometimes and it has also spooked nilgai. But it should be less likely to since ill be locating them via thermal.

I ended up backing out then, unfortunately had some other priorities come up.

I would grab a used Pulsar scanner from one of the dealers on the nightvision/thermal group on Facebook.

Combo that with a good IR light and scope for the rifle.

Probably the best way to do it on a budget.

I ended up sending the ATN back to midway. Wasn't too impressed. In the process of buying a used agm taipan 19-384 for $900. Was hesitant to buy a used thermal but seems like the best option. I'll give a review in a few days.

I wonder if AGM will honor your warranty on the used Taipan

They used to not have a transferable warranty but in feb 2023 they stated on their Facebook they’d start offering transferable warranty

I was also curious about that. I plan on giving them a call today to check. It has 9 months of warranty left if transferable.
