I have hog digging pits under my feeders. If I move the feeder and pour a 1.5 " thick concrete pad under the feeder. Will it effect the deer coming to the feeder. I know the hogs won't care, and I don't think the deer will. However, I figured I would check with the masses. I know that I could put a pen around it, but since the is no cows on the property I would prefer not to.. what are y'alls thoughts.
If I'm not hunting something I must be dead.

I’ve seen more than one feeder with a concrete pad under it. They won’t care.

Consider using a central A/C pad.

I tried pouring a pad under a feeder to see if it would help. This is the result. Hint, those aren't rocks in the picture. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2023/04/full-14913-387896-concrete1.jpg)
Silver spurs and gold tequila keep me hanging on. Pretty girls and old cantinas give me shelter from the storm.

when I have run into this issue, I usually move the feeder a bit ... I have seen others that put does a partial cattle or hog panel ... and if that didn't seem effective, then pour a couple of bags of sacrette over the top of the panels.

I put a couple of cut up hog panels under my pig feeder and no more digging.. We did this years ago on some of them. It seems to work but I always worried a deer would get a foot hung up. It would only take one like that to make it not a good idea. The concrete will work but I would more seriously consider a pen.

I just move 'em a little ways when they're empty. Like you, there's no cattle on my place and I want to keep it simple. The state biologist told me that they don't like to see standing water under feeders 'cause it can cause deer getting diseases, but it never stands on my place more than a day. Don't forget to make time to at least try to kill every parasite pig, by hook or crook, on the place! Trap if you can.

If a hole develops I either move the feeder over if it is convenient, or I take a few bags of quikrete with whatever metal junk, wire fence, rocks, etc I can add to it and level it over. I do it while there is standing water in the hole so it will set before the hogs get to it again. Where I have access to a tractor, more recently we filled a feeder hole with a couple loads of dirt and built it up higher than the surrounding ground. The deer don't care.

That stall mat would keep them from digging a hole. But my problem, and I’ve watched it, is the bumping the legs and getting the corn down. I’m thinking about fencing.
Without a sense of urgency, nothing ever happens.

It would only take one like that to make it not a good idea. The concrete will work but I would more seriously consider a pen. Mine have been in place for about 4 years with no problems. That's my "dedicated" pig feeder that has a small pen around it with 2 cut-outs on the bottom for the pigs to enter. Will get the occasional deer jump in but no hang-ups for either deer or pigs.

Have you used this before? Yes, under 2 feeders. Work well. One in a pen and one not. Both are stand and fill types and staked down with re-bar. Drill a hole in mat to put re-bar through. Sorry it took so long to answer.

concrete will not bother the deer. The only bad thing I have ever heard about was the deer floundering and it can get bad. I will try to find the article and post it.

I would build a pen with 5 hog panels and set my feeder off center toward where you will hunt from so you can still have some corn in front of the pen to hunt hogs
