Looking for ideas to keep raccoons from climbing my protein feeder legs?
Spike strips do not work.
I trap and shoot them as often as I can.
I can not use a cage bc it’s a demand style feeder with an open eating mouth.

I have heard of guys using pvc pipe over the feeder legs that will spin, was looking for idea styles like this. These little guys are killing me with just pulling corn out the tube opening.

I had good luck with Vaseline and cayenne pepper on legs. Messy and have to re-apply often but seem to work. Now I have 4- 5 leg traps and dispatch a few a week.

The PVC pipe, 4" will work great, especially if you hook them at the top with a small bungie cord. The coon jump onto them
and the PVC pipe just slides down a couple of inches. I place them about 18 inches from the ground. It will solve your coon
problem. On downside for my is that you have to replace the bungie cords about once a year as the sun eats away at them. [Linked Image]

the longer the PVC the better ... where it will freely twist around the legs ... only cure I have found that even remotely works on the place SW from Ozona. All feeders have eliminator plates and cages as well, just because that was the order of installation prior to putting on the PVC.

For the pvc drill it and attach with cable, works the same. I used the pvc method for years with good success but last year they figured out how to climb it eventually.

if they get enough mud on their feet before trying to climb, eventually they will get enough mud on the PVC to where they can climb once it dries. another reason for the longer lengths of PVC. I tried the Vaseline or grease method with pretty good success until enough tried to climb that they got it all wiped off or covered in mud.

Yes they do. I've trapped 10 in last 3 weeks and placed them in our "bone yard". The buzzards are there almost before I can leave.

Is your protein feeder that has 3 or 4 spouts that they walk up to and eat out of it?

This one has been at this feeder every night for a week.he gets his paws in the varmit cage and turns the spinner plate. I set a live trap and a foot hold trap both today. Maybe the end of him. [Linked Image]

I had the same problem except coons chewed a hole in my varmint guard and would sit in there and spin it . I removed the guard and installed a eliminator spinner on my corn feeder cause they can’t get anything.
Getting my coon hoods this weekend and hopefully get them installed and shut those coons down at protein feeder.

Same thing they use on ship lines to keep rats and mice away. They spin when a varmints try to grab onto them. You can probably make them out of galvanized trash cans lids.

YIKES!!! I have to set up a rebuilt feeder at my place SW of Ozona due to hogs demolishing the pen and feeder. Looks like they rooted up the t-posts along a portion (solid rock, posts not in very deep), then pushed the legs of the feeder to the point where it caved in the walls of the barrel. Anyway, I have the feeder rebuilt but wanted to put PVC on the legs as a preventative for coons. Went to Home Depot to buy the 4" PVC eeks333 $48 ... WTH???

the 4" drain/sewer pvc pipe works just fine for feeder leg protecton - half the price of sch40
