My Dad is turning 80 in a couple of weeks and he is "retiring" from being a deacon. He was ordained back in 1980 and just stepped down, becoming a deacon emeritus. In honor of that I made this lamp/plaque combo. I used mesquite for both pieces. The lamp had some gnarly areas near the top that I filled with epoxy. The base was nearly perfect, needing only sanding and danish oil. The shade evokes a stained glass church window. The small plaque brought it all together. I haven't given it to him yet, but I think he will be pleased.

Nice work all the way around! I have a friend who turns and I am always impressed by the results.

Wow. I wasn’t expecting that. That’s very creative and very nicely done.

Thanks for the compliments! I can hardly wait to give it to him. He is very sentimental, so this ought to get him in the feels. smile
