Leaving tomorrow for Callahan county to hunt turkeys, but I’m starting to get nervous that they’re already done. Anybody have eyes down there to know if it’s still good?
You may all go to hell and I will go to Texas! -Davy Crocket This is duck hunting...shirts and shoes are optional

It gets better when hens are nesting. They are always out there, if not gobbling set up in good areas and call less frequent. Purrs and clucks work well. Keep alert for them to come in silent.

I got one in Throckmorton county Friday afternoon 4/21. Had 3 gobblers come in pretty fast to calling. I'd say it's getting close to being over though. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2023/04/full-21346-387607-48b72139_7d9c_4535_80bf_03a52d14e153.jpeg)

Took my son out this morning and big tom came in to 8-10 feet. Unfortunately, when I told him to get ready, he didn't realize that meant get his gun up. Tom came in quick with the 8 other birds behind him, so son couldn't move without being busted. Waited until they walked off and went back to the house for a nap. Birds came back to the field and we were able to sneak in around the side and get set up. Tom came in to 35-40 yards and my son dropped his first turkey!! It happened to be a double beard too!

I went out the last two weekends in San Saba County and didn't see a single bird. Two weeks ago I got a couple gobbles a long ways away, but that was it. Hunted out of blind and got out and covered some ground with no luck. We are on a small property and I've never seen birds roost on our place, so I'm assuming the birds are all henned up and anchored down on the property next to us where we always have seen them coming from early in the season. I sure do love turkey hunting- but man am I bad at it..
