The long range thermal thread made some silly [censored] pop into my head.

JG mentioned a FFP thermal. I immediately assumed there was no such thing. So….. I had a flash. What if someone made a clip on for the front of a scope that worked like a viewfinder. It would have the appropriate adjustment to attach it to the front and center it on zero. Simple stuff these days just like the attachments for phones on the eyepiece side just more robust and finely tuneable.

Say you could spin the wheel like we did as kids and change the printed reticle to equate to a different magnification. 5-10-15x etc. the reticle(s) would equate to FFP.

If you can understand my sober ramblings on this and you could attach it to ANY SFP scope what would it be worth? I’m thinking $250 solid.

It would be giant and ugly but people who do thermal don’t seem to mind. Also the halfhearted weekends warrior would be all over so they can say FFP and Creedmoor in the same sentence. There’s a market out there. Academy and Bass Pro look out.

I just made someone a nice chunk of change. Build a prototype before me and you win. I’m slow and lazy so you’ve got a good chance.

River Rider failed to fall to my bait on the 45-.375 Colt. Maybe I need a project of my own.

Edit for the critics: Objective and Ocular.

I don't think it would be any great trick to program a thermal to scale the reticle to the magnification. Just a firmware thing, I would think. In fact, it could easily be selected to be ON of OFF in the menus. It seems like someone would have thought to create this option already.

program a thermal to scale the reticle to the magnification.
Already done, and thermal clip-ons are readily available.

I think you’re missing the market. The people here are not the market. “Make any scope a FFP!” Lol

Some scopes already have FFP reticles, and not just clip-ons. My Trijicon has it, for example.
