Ok here's my question. If normal application of Roundup is 2 Oz. Per gallon how come all wildlife management videos say 2 quarts per acer. When it will take approximately 10-12 gallons of mix to cover 1 acer. 10-12 gallons of mix is only 20-24 Oz. Not 2 quarts.

One acer of land is 70 yards X 70 yards.

Maybe they want you to spread at the rate of 32 gallons per acre?

Easy is sometimes utility. Not everyone understands 2oz per gallon, but everyone understands 2 qt per acre. Sometimes easier is better for the "wildlife manager".

You should be fine using 2 oz per gallon if you want to do that. you will not be hurting anything going a little over on the concentration. I always like to spray a little heavier to ensure effect.

Which brings up another (more likely reason) possible, under concentrating can cause resistance among plants, so if you are slightly off on the 2oz per gallon or if you get some wind drift and effectively get 1.5oz per gallon, then you are cultivating roundup resistant weeds in your plots. By going heavy on the concentration you will kill off everything, and won't foster any roundup resistant weeds.

That's why I use 3oz per gallon. Plus everything is dead. However, I don't use roundup, I use Farmworks 41% Glyphosate Grass and Weed Killer from Tractor supply.
About 1/2 price as Roundup and kills everything it touches dead.

I'm no Ag expert but doesn't speed also come into play when using a pull-behind or tractor-mounted sprayer? Would a stronger mix allow for more speed?

I'm sure it does. But I drive at "what I think" is about 5 miles an hour, watching to be sure that most gets covered. I have a homemade
sprayer that I can put in my truck or side by side. I made the sprayer after buying two at Tractor supply and only getting one year out of each one. Cost me $300 each time.

Food is so scarce on our place it's not necessary. Feeding year round the deer keep things nice and bare. Wish we had this issue to deal with.

You adjust carrier volume or per gallon rate to get a desired per acre rate.

You can spray a field with 3 gpa of total mix or 300 and still apply the exact same amount of herbicide. You adjust the concentration based off of your carrier volume. 2oz per gallon is more targeted at someone with a backpack sprayer who isn’t going to be precise on how much they apply per sq ft.

This. Oz/gal is the measurement for the residential or smaller spot spraying target audience. Gal or qt/acre is meant for someone who is covering acres and has calibrated spray volume vs speed. FYI tractor supply sells 53% as well as the 41%.
