How come the ends of deer antlers do not get polished white like the ends of elk antlers do?

How come the ends of deer antlers do not get polished white like the ends of elk antlers do? due to elk wallowing and putting antlers in mud/dirt. Its like taking sand paper to the tips when they go to rub on trees and brush, then the rest just dries and embeds into main beams etc.

I have a few deer hanging with polished antler tips, may depend on what they have to rub on.
BOBO is spot on about elk.

Mature bulls with white antler tips are impressive animals for sure.
