The wife and I made it to the Turkey hide 60 yards from the feeder they like . Got settled in and no more than 10 minutes later a Big tom came in with his brood of hens . We were rifle hunting [ 17 WSM bolt rifle ] . I did one Gobble call the the tom really perked up . The wife was watching him through her scope and said "when should I shoot ?". I said when ever you feel you have a good head / neck shot . She tracks him as he walks around guarding his hens , looking for who gobbled . He then steps behind a bush for a bit and something spooked him and he ran them all off . Wife kept saying "I should have shot " . Even though we got no turkey I felt it was a good hunt .

Not all about the kill, show can be worth the sit in the great outdoors

We're in Irion County and have been skunked 3 years in a row. They don't come to hen calls and appear and vanish like ghosts. No one on our place hunts them, but they're the most difficult turkeys I've ever hunted. Good luck.
