When preparing for the upcoming Dove season, better make hotel reservations early, as some are booked almost a year out! Unless you hunt a place like Stompy's where he has Cabins available for groups. Of course he has groups booked years ahead. Thats how you know your guide puts on a good hunt!!

How early do you prepare?

Probably won't see a dove opener unless something freaky happens next decade or so. Elk hunting is taking up my sept. now. But we always booked for the next opener on the last day of august when we rolled into town and checked in wherever we were staying

I’ve booked for the following year when checking out in Montana for opening week of upland season September 1.

We use an outfitter now that has lodging, but when we used to hunt in the Graham and Breckinridge areas we had to get our rooms reserved months in advance.

I appreciate the kind words Chris. Yes I have cabins but I usually have a few openings each year. I added another cabin this year on a neighbors place, it sleeps 5. Hopefully the hunting is better this year. I am seeing quite a few doves around, but the sunflowers desperately need a rain.

We watch dove all year only to have them fly South on Aug. 31 almost every year.
We get a cold front like on a schedule every year just before Sept 1 and our birds get out of town fast.

A hunt at Stompy's has always sounded great.
