A California mom is suing after cops raided her farm to seize her daughter’s pet goat so that a state senator could serve it at a community barbecue, according to reports. Jessica long bought Cedar the goat in April of last year for her nine-year-old daughter, The Sacramento Bee reported. Long entered Cedar into the Shasta District Fair’s livestock auction, which stipulated that the all sales are “terminal” and the animal would be sold for meat, according to the report. The fair reportedly had a “no exceptions” rule. But Long changed her mind prior to the bidding, according to the report, and tried to pull Cedar out of the auction, but officials refused. Story

Wow. I'd have just bought a meat goat at the local market and turned "Cedar" back in. Like they'd know the difference?

A terminal sale is just that, terminal. A market animal is a market animal.
Don't get me wrong, I love animals but the family and the daughter knew what the outcome would be months earlier. Both my boys were involved in 4H & FFA knowing the outcome.
Buy another goat and move on. No tears from me on this one.

This is why livestock shouldn’t have a name.

If you have one goat you have 10 goats. I have to shoot them constantly. Who on Earth would pay for a goat?
Trolling? Heck no, I meant every word of it.

Isn’t livestock showing supposed to be a learning experience for kids?
Seems to me that kid just learned to follow through with commitments, and the mother is teaching her that if you don’t get what you want, pitch a fit.

“cabrito…that’s funny. Forgive my being off topic for a sec, but I have never had cabrito that I thought was worth eating.

“cabrito…that’s funny. Forgive my being off topic for a sec, but I have never had cabrito that I thought was worth eating. Many years back there was something like a convenience store in Richardson on the west side of 75 where you could buy a complete cooked goat if you wanted to. I don't know if the people that owned it were Mexican or Middle Eastern but the goat was delicious.
Trolling? Heck no, I meant every word of it.
