Does it make sense to keep a gun, knowing your A. not really going to use it for the forseeable future and B. whatever need you had for it, you have others that will do the job just as well.

Really thinking about selling my .257 wby Accumark. I have a .300 win that will do everything I would ever use the .257 for. Would free up the safe space to buy something else like a Ruger No. 1, if I ever felt the need.

With the aquisition of the .300 I just can't picture myself using the .257 for anything other than a south texas whitetail hunt, and I hardly ever go on those anymore. If I did, I have a .270 I would use in its stead.

I've thought about this as well. I have several I bought and have had for years and never shot one time. Others I used to shoot and haven't shot in probably 20 years, but have sentimental value. I have about 6 long-guns that get used yearly and the rest mostly just sit. For some reason I don't sell them though....probably because I don't have anything else in mind I'd buy.

you aren't worthy…. you should sale

roflmao I thought my sub 8 lb 28 nos mountain rifle was my new go to, just because I had doubled my range with it, and cutt weight. Well I still had to grab ol faith full when it was time to split hairs on my mulie this year.

if its a confidence thing send it packing, if you are just thinking out loud, keep it. will work great for the kids

I am not buying any more and have several I haven’t shot or haven’t shot in years. Every time I think about selling I stop and wonder what happens if at some point we can’t buy any more? Then I keep them. nuts

Its just thinking out loud right now, but I haven't shot the gun in about 4 years. I could use it on my next Mule Deer hunt, but the .300 is lighter, has a better scope and hits harder, so why wouldn't I just use my .300?

I've sold 4 long guns in the last couple years that I never used anymore. It allowed me to buy 4 more in calibers that have seen more use. There are other Browning .410 shotguns that were given to my 3 boys that they have never shot and are also taking up space, but those will never be sold unless they choose to do so someday. The configuration that I have for a safe won't allow for anything bigger than 24-capacity, so that's my limit.

Lefty needs a lefty and it's child abuse to rob her of that right roflmao

If there isn't sentimental reasons and I get the hair to sell, I sell and I've yet to look back and wish I wouldn't have. That's just me and I'm weird like that...just about everything I own is for sale, for the right price.

I have a safe full, most that I haven’t shot in years. Also have dies and components to hand load them.

Don’t need the guns but also don’t need the money.

The guns stay.

I've sold about 10 in the last two years. I'm saving up for an Abrams. Go big or go home.

If it's not sentimental sell it when you see something else to replace it with.

Or, if your concerned, bury it in a lead lined box in the back yard along with powder, bullets and reloading dies.

Did I just say that out loud...

I’ve got quite a few guns I’ve never fired, but as one person said one day we might not be able to buy them. Besides as one friend has said, he who dies with the most toys win. Lol grin

I've sold a bunch of guns I said I would not sell and now I can't even remember half of them and don't really care about any of them. There is always something new and more interesting around the corner.

I think this is the group I’m falling into.

Not really into anything new it’s just an item that isn’t seeing any use and can’t think of a time it will.

Best case it’s a backup gun when I travel

Ive thinned out so many the last few years....

If I didn't use it, I sold it and that was my measuring stick

I think the only 1 I miss was a super clean red pad in 257 Roberts, sold to a member here...but I got rid of plenty others

The gun I really want is a Blazer R8 Professional success with a threaded barrel. Thats what I really want. If Sako ever makes the S20 in a Lefty I would consider that as well.

So this rifle could be used to partially fund that purchase.

If it's not going to get used, sell it.

Use the funds for a rifle that will get used, or an optic upgrade, or loading components/ ammo.

Last year, a friend called telling me he and his dad have safes full of guns that don't get used, and they're selling them. They wanted to use the funds for a custom rifle that will get used. He said "I'm not going to just come out and say I don't care what it costs, but handle it."

His dad got his first custom rifle at 65 years old. Everything exactly as he he said he wanted it.

Thats strong advice. I really want to put a new scope on it, but that makes no sense as even with a new scope, I still wouldn't use it. What I would really prefer is a nice rifle ( like the R8 ) with a threaded barrel where I can shoot suppressed, as even my nostalgic arse can see thats where everything is headed too. I bowhunt 95% of the time anyway so whatever rifle I end up buying by default won't see much use. And I really like 30mm scope tubes vs. the old 1" that I have on my guns currently, so I would outfit the new rig exactly how I would want it.

I think I'm gonna put it up for sale

Get what you want, don't settle and I mean down to the T..be it factory or custom, glass, rings etc...its the only way

I want a Hell's Canyon so bad I cant see straight

The place I went last week didn't have my caliber so I walked

Id rather have 2-3 that are beat to piss than a pick up load of ones I don't like or don't use...

And I am preaching to the choir here, I could have walked out w a few options and it was hard because what they had was close enough for my years past

I've sold guns thinking I'd never miss them, and later wished I hadn't sold them. I've also held on to guns to finally sell them and then wonder why I didn't upgrade earlier. If you think that you won't miss it down the road, sell it. Fund something you really want...or keep it, and come up with the funds to buy what you want elsewhere. The good thing about guns is that they rarely lose value sitting in the safe.

I've never sold a gun. When the day comes I can't use them I'll give them to family and friends.

I've sold more than I can remember. Most of them had issues when received that I resolved. I have several I have not tried out but I don't buy new guns so all my "un-fired by me" units are vintage and I own them for collector reasons.

I am currently on the fence about selling my 1892 copy and my customized by me Blackhawk in .357 as a "set" along with all my .357 loading/casting gear and components.

Pass the gravy.

I've sold guns to fund another project so in essence I've maintained the same number of guns. Except, at the Fredericksburg Gunshow I finally broke down and bought an AR. My wife, bless her heart, doesn't question me or complain when I do get another but she enjoys hunting and shooting as much as I do. A few of my collection were handed down to me by family which my son will get when he finishes college. The others I'm giving to friends and family when I pass on.

Typically I don't sell firearms since I've been out of that business for many years. The only time I part with one is when I see someone asking for something that I have. When I wasn't so busy with work one of my favorite things to do was to buy an old bolt action that had a sound barrel and action and spend a weekend reworking and bedding the stock, free floating the barrel, and working up a perfect load for the rifle. After that the rifles would kind of get set aside although sometimes I would hunt with them. I have one rifle which is an FMP G3 copy that I have bought and sold five times over the years. I would always sell it at the top of the market and somehow some way I'd always find it again and buy it at the bottom of the market. I bought that rifle a few days after my 18th birthday and it is still new and unfired. As it sits now I have hundreds if not thousands of firearms and have been collecting them for so long that I don't even really remember what all I have. Last year I was shocked when I was digging through a safe that I have in a shop at my mom's house and stumbled across a former Detroit SWAT team HK mp5 that I thought that I had sold years ago. Had I not had the NFA papers attached to it in an envelope I wouldn't have even known that it was select fire.

Never seen the need to sell up to this point. If I want a new gun, I’m fine waiting until I have saved up, never needed one so fast that I had to sell another.

You also never know how someone else down the line will value that gun if you plan on handing them down. My great Uncle had an old trapdoor .45-70 that no one knew about and ended getting handed down to my dad. We’ve had a really great time getting that gun in shooting condition and throwing some lead through it. It hadn’t been shot in probably 50 years and could’ve been sold, but we were both glad it wasn’t.

Well, this will start an argument BUT it seems manufacturers are on a downhill slope on turning out product. I have some old S&W revolvers and you cannot buy that quality today. Therefore, no way I am selling them. If the firearm is simply something that wasn't that great to start, then okay as long as I get a market price.

We’ve had a really great time getting that gun in shooting condition and throwing some lead through it. It hadn’t been shot in probably 50 years and could’ve been sold, but we were both glad it wasn’t.

It’s not a need to have to sell one to buy another, or needing another one quickly. It’s simply dispersing of an underutilized tool to free up space in the safe, to possibly be filled by a firearm that will be used more often than once every 3-4 years.

As far as how someone else will value it, this isn’t an heirloom model 70 that I shot my first deer with. This is a tool that has no sentimental value to me nor to my kids.

As I’m the only left handed person in the family, and my kids have their own guns, any hand me down value is negated other than the market value of the gun

I've never sold a gun I've owned. I will pass them on to my children, grandkids, and great grandkids. I wish I had the same problem blkt2, as I believe there is no way in hell you can have too many guns. In this day and age, there is no telling what our government might do.

I've never sold a gun, only ever traded. Guns will always hold value in one shape or form so I'll never have one less in the safe but for maybe a very short bit until I buy the next.

And you hope with all your heart that they will cherish them and they will mean as much to them as they do to you.....but the truth is they probably won't.

Like every old gun I've gotten passed down to me....they sit in the safe, not being used, right next to the .257 wby I've got for sale.....

Broad brush, for something that needed a tiny artist brush.

Manufacturers are not on a downhill slope, not at all. CNC machinery today is holding much tighter tolerances and making the product faster. Today's mass production rifles would have been competitive against customs of 30 years ago.

Bad news for you, you got old. Revolvers just are not as popular as they once were. I agree, old S&W revolvers are fine pieces of machinery, but today, S&W cannot justify the expense to pump into a type of firearm they aren't going to sell as many of as several other types. We can probably give Glock the credit for this beginning in 1984.

I can point you to a fairly large SWAT team in the metroplex using S&W pistols. But, they are not revolvers, they are M&P 2.0 wearing red dot optics.

I sold all of these guns and only wish I had the Ruger Single Six back. I bought and sold all of them except the A-Bolt when I was about 20 years old. I do have a Remington 700 VLS/.308 that is a safe queen and beautiful gun that I have considered selling and buying something else lately. I just have a hard time turning them loose. Only sold one gun since 1980.

Taurus 38 special
Winchester model 1200
Winchester 22 semi auto
Ruger single six 22
Browning A Bolt 300-win mag (BOSS)

I have only sold 2 guns in my life, one I regret selling and the other I regret buying in the first place. The one I wish I still had was a blue steel model 29 in .44 Mag, it was the 6 1/2 in bbl Dirty Harry edition that came in a wooden presentation case. But when you are a young father and the kid needs diapers, you gotta do what ya gotta do.

I've sold two. Basically to standardize the ammo inventory and also they were rifles I don't shoot or have much use for.

It's not the number of guns that you have, it's how much ammo you have. A guy on here is a fireman close to my house and when I told him how much I have in my house he said that they don't like responding to calls at a place like that.

Fortunately or unfortunately depending on your perspective I've got to start selling guns because I have twins coming and need a bigger house and don't like borrowing money and don't want to sell the house I have now. Y'all may start seeing some really interesting listings from me.

Every time I sell a gun I end up with sellers remorse. So it's pretty hard to pry anything out of my safe these days.

Then again.. I only buy guns I like and plan to use. So that's my justification..

Ammo pops. Lots of gun powder and primers is a bigger concern.

But most people have gas cans in their garages, and some form of propane tank. Those make their own drama.

I've actually broke even on the last two I've sold. But, yes, this is definitely my Modis Aparanji. Although I do occasionally shoot them. Headed to Rifle Gear today for their NAF Fun Day.

The gun has to turn you on.

If you look at it and just say “meh”, sell it.

Life is too short to hang on to guns that don’t do it for you.

Old guy at a gun show told me, “guns are like horses, buy it, race it for a while, then sell it”

If you really fall in love with it, keep it.

Only regret selling 1 out of many.

I'm asking myself this question about a Winchester 94 22M that I thought I would let ride in my ranger and shoot varmints of opportunity with. It's too pretty and all I do is have fun at the range with it.

Guns?

Heck, you ought to see all of the tools that I’ve accumulated. I Have a small fortune in tools that I know I probably will never use. But, the quickest way to need or want a tool is to get rid of it.

I quit building knives about 10 + years ago but still have all of the materials and tools in case I get the urge.

Have about a bucket full of silver coins that I’ve collected. Not for sale but worth quite a bit of $.

I quit bird hunting years ago but still have my shotguns and a lot of shells.I finally gave the press and all the tools, shot and powder to a friend.

Have a collectors Winchester in 38-40 caliber and ancient cartridges. Shot it once about 30 to 40 years ago.

My point is that I buy things that I want. And, I keep them.

BTW, on my second wife but we went separate directions when I realized that she wasn’t really working late.

I’ve sold a lot of guns, the only one I regret selling was a Ruger stainless Blackhawk in .357. Had a trigger kit on it and man it was smooth shooting. Sold it to a buddies dad to fund a start up business when I was 18 ( I had the enterprising mind but not the sense, pyramid schemes don’t work fyi ) Still wish I had that one, the others I don’t miss. Sold a Model 70 in 7mm wsm, a Browning A-Bolt in 7mm rem, two or three 1100’s, an 870 Wingmaster, a couple Marlin 336’s, Remington 700 SPS in .22-250, and several other shotguns of various makes and models over the years.

The gun itself I love. Just with some others on my stable it’s sort of useless….it’s a great South Texas rifle. Only issue is I don’t hunt there much anymore. Any critter I’m after out of state I’m picking up the bow or the .300 win ( chambered in an extremely similar rifle) and when I’m just putzing around I’ll use my .270 or if the stars align right my .308 with a suppressor, which will probably be my “main” gun for when I’m shooting a rifle here in Texas, which is very rare these days.

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Just in case FYI....if you do sell a gun and get Sellers Remorse over it.....there is a new place to shop with one of the best pile of shooters I've seen in a very long time on Hwy 19 South, just north of the Athens High School, and a little bit south of the Loop in Athens on Hwy 19. This is one of my every day routes to go any where else North or West to chase furniture & antiques to ReSell in the shop called the "Browsery" where we have had a booth for the last 6 years in the old original Blakes Furniture location on Hwy 79 1 block inside the Loop in Palestine.

Almost passed Cowboys as usual, it looks like another mega sized lumber & tools place, but noticed a new Add On building on the south end of the building that had a pile of cars & pickups parked in front of the new entry door at Cowboy's couple weeks ago. It was raining that day and I was tired of getting splashed by the 18 wheelers.

When you walk into the new Add On building, you'll get lost in all the Womans Ready To Wear racks...until you notice all the long gun shooters lined up on the back wall...and then all the pistols in glass cases. The guy in a wheel chair really does knows the butt from the bore too....unlike the guys at Academy in Tyler

I studied on how to find enough pocket change to buy or at least put something in Lay Away like the Tikka 7-08 I was drooling over that was at a better price than I've seen one at all the other Mega Sized Gun stores in Dallas & Tyler....until I finally realized that what I was hearing was really Big Time rain and mega sized thunder I was hearing and not some forklift moving lumber.

Hwy 19 South is very winding and with lots of twisty turns and narrow one lane places NOT a fun place to drive in a rain storm and fight the 18 wheelers truck traffic for a lane of my own in the few wide 2 lane spots , so I hauled it for home. FYI stop in Bradford to catch a good place to eat lunch too....and let you lower your Blood Pressure.

Sell it when you don't have to, & when no one you wanted to pass it on to wants it.

Yeah that is where I'm at. My goal is in retirement to shoot the safe queens often.

I sold some firearms fifteen years ago and regret it and told myself I wouldn't do it again.

I’m trying to buy a couple I sold and regret. I don’t have anyone to leave them to so I’m not planning to own near as many as once planned
