Does it make sense to keep a gun, knowing your A. not really going to use it for the forseeable future and B. whatever need you had for it, you have others that will do the job just as well.

Really thinking about selling my .257 wby Accumark. I have a .300 win that will do everything I would ever use the .257 for. Would free up the safe space to buy something else like a Ruger No. 1, if I ever felt the need.

With the aquisition of the .300 I just can't picture myself using the .257 for anything other than a south texas whitetail hunt, and I hardly ever go on those anymore. If I did, I have a .270 I would use in its stead.

I've thought about this as well. I have several I bought and have had for years and never shot one time. Others I used to shoot and haven't shot in probably 20 years, but have sentimental value. I have about 6 long-guns that get used yearly and the rest mostly just sit. For some reason I don't sell them though....probably because I don't have anything else in mind I'd buy.

you aren't worthy…. you should sale

roflmao I thought my sub 8 lb 28 nos mountain rifle was my new go to, just because I had doubled my range with it, and cutt weight. Well I still had to grab ol faith full when it was time to split hairs on my mulie this year.

if its a confidence thing send it packing, if you are just thinking out loud, keep it. will work great for the kids

I am not buying any more and have several I haven’t shot or haven’t shot in years. Every time I think about selling I stop and wonder what happens if at some point we can’t buy any more? Then I keep them. nuts

Its just thinking out loud right now, but I haven't shot the gun in about 4 years. I could use it on my next Mule Deer hunt, but the .300 is lighter, has a better scope and hits harder, so why wouldn't I just use my .300?

I've sold 4 long guns in the last couple years that I never used anymore. It allowed me to buy 4 more in calibers that have seen more use. There are other Browning .410 shotguns that were given to my 3 boys that they have never shot and are also taking up space, but those will never be sold unless they choose to do so someday. The configuration that I have for a safe won't allow for anything bigger than 24-capacity, so that's my limit.

Lefty needs a lefty and it's child abuse to rob her of that right roflmao

If there isn't sentimental reasons and I get the hair to sell, I sell and I've yet to look back and wish I wouldn't have. That's just me and I'm weird like that...just about everything I own is for sale, for the right price.

I have a safe full, most that I haven’t shot in years. Also have dies and components to hand load them.

Don’t need the guns but also don’t need the money.

The guns stay.

I've sold about 10 in the last two years. I'm saving up for an Abrams. Go big or go home.

If it's not sentimental sell it when you see something else to replace it with.

Or, if your concerned, bury it in a lead lined box in the back yard along with powder, bullets and reloading dies.

Did I just say that out loud...

I’ve got quite a few guns I’ve never fired, but as one person said one day we might not be able to buy them. Besides as one friend has said, he who dies with the most toys win. Lol grin

I've sold a bunch of guns I said I would not sell and now I can't even remember half of them and don't really care about any of them. There is always something new and more interesting around the corner.

I think this is the group I’m falling into.

Not really into anything new it’s just an item that isn’t seeing any use and can’t think of a time it will.

Best case it’s a backup gun when I travel

Ive thinned out so many the last few years....

If I didn't use it, I sold it and that was my measuring stick

I think the only 1 I miss was a super clean red pad in 257 Roberts, sold to a member here...but I got rid of plenty others

The gun I really want is a Blazer R8 Professional success with a threaded barrel. Thats what I really want. If Sako ever makes the S20 in a Lefty I would consider that as well.

So this rifle could be used to partially fund that purchase.

If it's not going to get used, sell it.

Use the funds for a rifle that will get used, or an optic upgrade, or loading components/ ammo.

Last year, a friend called telling me he and his dad have safes full of guns that don't get used, and they're selling them. They wanted to use the funds for a custom rifle that will get used. He said "I'm not going to just come out and say I don't care what it costs, but handle it."

His dad got his first custom rifle at 65 years old. Everything exactly as he he said he wanted it.

Thats strong advice. I really want to put a new scope on it, but that makes no sense as even with a new scope, I still wouldn't use it. What I would really prefer is a nice rifle ( like the R8 ) with a threaded barrel where I can shoot suppressed, as even my nostalgic arse can see thats where everything is headed too. I bowhunt 95% of the time anyway so whatever rifle I end up buying by default won't see much use. And I really like 30mm scope tubes vs. the old 1" that I have on my guns currently, so I would outfit the new rig exactly how I would want it.

I think I'm gonna put it up for sale

Get what you want, don't settle and I mean down to the T..be it factory or custom, glass, rings etc...its the only way

I want a Hell's Canyon so bad I cant see straight

The place I went last week didn't have my caliber so I walked

Id rather have 2-3 that are beat to piss than a pick up load of ones I don't like or don't use...

And I am preaching to the choir here, I could have walked out w a few options and it was hard because what they had was close enough for my years past

I've sold guns thinking I'd never miss them, and later wished I hadn't sold them. I've also held on to guns to finally sell them and then wonder why I didn't upgrade earlier. If you think that you won't miss it down the road, sell it. Fund something you really want...or keep it, and come up with the funds to buy what you want elsewhere. The good thing about guns is that they rarely lose value sitting in the safe.

I've never sold a gun. When the day comes I can't use them I'll give them to family and friends.
