What direction should wood duck boxes face? Southeast?

Located in Van Zandt County

Main thing is make sure they cannot see the entrance to another box. Face them all different directions… if a hen sees another hen entering another nest box anywhere near her area they will fly over and scoop the eggs out.

At least 5 wood duck boxes in this pic. Facing East, South and North. All produce multiple hatches every year

Whats the best way to hang wood duck boxes?

I've been using 8' tpost driven atleast 3' into the ground as my anchor/stabilizer. Then use 10' pipe to go over the tpost with the wood duck box up top and a varmint guard about 2' below the wood duck box.

Trying to figure out a cheaper and easier way, mainly trying to get rid of the varmint guard.

Would 3/4" rebar be sturdy enough? Could a coon or varmint climb 3/4" rear?

Give me some ideas....TIA

I use chain link top rail and plastic 18" squirrel guards for wood ducks and bluebirds. I have not been successful without the squirrel guards due to snakes. (I am not worried about squirrels of course, just the guards we use are sold as that)

How do you anchor the top rail?

T post driver or sledge hammer with a piece of 2x4 over the top hole. It's tricky in a boat but can be done.
