Step Mother is entering into Hospice, can anyone share some insight into the future and any do's or don't do's?

Sorry to hear this. The good news is they are pros at what they do.

Hospice at home or in a hospice facility?

My dad had it at home, my grandmother had hospice at a facility.

My mother-law had it at our house, those folks are great, hope things come easy for her.

My mother was in a nursing home when she entered Hospice. They moved her into a private room and had 24x7 care by specially trained nurses. Just know that no lifesaving measures will be taken at that point. Only drugs for pain relief.

Yes. Spend as much time as you can with her. As mentioned, the hospice nurses are really great and they will walk you through it.

Talk to the hospice nurses outside of the room and out of earshot. Ask them nicely what do I need to know and what's going to happen over the next week? Use a phrase like "Help me understand...". Be sure to listen.

Don'ts:

Don't ever argue with family or create any negative waves over or around a person in end-of-life care unless there's some sort of deliberate desire for cruelty.

Do's:

Don't be afraid to show love and compassion.

Have a plan for what's going to happen, funeral home, etc.

To be determined

My dad entered hospice in our house. Hospice nurses are living breathing angels. Expect people in your house all the time. Ours would just text that she was on her way and I would respond with the door is unlocked, even though she had the code. They are not only there for the patient, but also for your mental health.

Thankfully we have never had to deal with this.
That said, prayers for your family, you and your step-mom.

Good advice given already. Talk with the hospice nurses outside where the patient is. Have plans made for the loved one after they are gone, if not already fully finalized get it done.

Remember the Hospice nurses are people too and that is a job that can weigh on them as well. One of my Sisters was a Hospice nurse for several years until she had had enough.

Prayers for You and the Family, the Step Mom and care givers.

Have to echo and repeat all the info above. They are angels, and provide so much care and compassion for both the patient and family. When my MIL went this November, they were super. Prayers up for you.

She left the hospital today and entered into hospice care at the Assisted Living where she lives.

Have printed out all the thoughts and insight from here and started a list of things to get done in the interim.

Thank goodness she had done a lot of the paper work things with the lawyer which have been needed thus far well in advance.

Again thanks.
