Who's got one? Been really looking at getting one but some of the things I have read is not very accurate with popular hunting rounds.

Thanks, after reading through these looks like I'll stay away from the SFAR for now.

I have one and some of the posts in the links above are from me. For the first 100 rounds or so it was really hard on brass, that has since cleared up. I have to run it on the #3 gas block setting, Ruger says that most ammo should run on the #2 setting but that has not been the case for me. I suppose that not really a problem as the brass is no longer being beat up and it doesn't seem to be over-gassed. Accuracy is ok but not as good as I had hoped. My previous AR-10 would consistently group in the 3/4-1 MOA range. My SFAR will consistently group 1.5 - 2 MOA with loads it likes. I shot it at 100 yards this weekend, see the target below. The groups circled in red are from the SFAR. Disregard the high shot in the center group as it was the first round from a freshly cleaned barrel. Its accurate enough for me to shoot pigs and deer out to 300 yards maybe a little farther. The trigger is pretty dang good, it breaks cleanly at 3.5 pounds according to my Wheeler trigger pull gauge. Its soooo much lighter and easier to handle compared to my old AR-10. It functions flawlessly. I did put a Geissele ambidextrous charging handle on it which, in my onion, is a must if you're going to run a scope. Overall I'm happy with my SFAR.

Thanks, are you using factory ammo or your own loads?

I am a hand-loader and I rarely shoot factory ammo but I did have some laying around and ran it through the SFAR. I have tried 175 Fed Gold Metal Match, SSA Ammo 168 SMK and 175 SMK (this stuff is hot) and Hornady TAP 168 AMAX. All shot in the 1.5-3 MOA range. In all fairness that was early in the break-in process and accuracy has improved some so the Fed 175 match may shoot better now. I tried the SSA again recently and it was about the same as before. I have not tried any 150 gr bullets as I prefer 165-180 but the 150s may be the ticket. The load I've settled on is Starline brass, 168 AMAX, 41.5 gr IMR 4895, CCI 200 primer, 2450 fps (16" barrel). I'm doing some CBTO testing now to fine tune it. I don't think its ever going to be a tack driver but I have several other rifles that are, I just need it to be minute if pig .

I gave up on mine, the juice wasn't worth the squeeze
It was supposed to be a mainly pig rig, part time deer rifle...
I was about at 6-7 boxes of various makers, grains and tips
I had thoroughly cleaned it 3 times, waited between rounds, hot and cold weather shooting
I had a few groups around 1" a few around 2" and a few as bad as 4"
I didn't believe it would ever cut the mustard and I honestly didn't trust it on game...even pigs

I’m starting to think a 308 belongs in an AR10 sized platform.

Thanks fellas for the replies. I'll pass on the SFAR at the moment. I already own a LMT 308 MWS which I love and is a tack driver. It's my main deer rifle but don't want to put my DNV scope on it that I plan on using for hogs. Was looking for a budget lightweight 308 in the AR platform.

If you're looking for a "budget" 308 option I'd buy/build an Aero Precision M5 for around the same cost and you'll be a lot better off.
