I get excellent accuracy out of my 16” AR barrel with the 8 twist. That said, what I don’t do is shoot that rifle for tiny groups, so I can’t say that it’ll shoot 1/2” groups. I shoot nice groups, but never measure them.

Thanks 603. Just wondering also if the 40 gr may be moving too fast. I agree about small grouping. I have a bolt action .223 for small groups.

I shoot the same load in the bolt gun as in the AR. The load was developed for the bolt gun but shot so well in the AR that I just stayed with that loading. If you are wondering if the bullet will fly apart with high speed in an 8 twist, I haven’t seen that happen. I’m up close to max with H335, though I can’t remember the powder charge.
That bullet will absolutely smack a coyote.

Not the same thing, but I shoot basic 45gr Winchester jacketed hollow points in my 1:9 5r barrel on one of my AR-15s with a 16" barrel. Out 200-300 yds or so it seems that I am the limitation, not the ammo.

Marc Where did you get the 5R barrel for the AR?

In this instance the quality of the gun and your abilities probably plays a bigger role in accuracy when using this ammunition. 40gr is awfully light unless you're shooting tiny Critters and if you are shooting tiny Critters it will darn near turn them inside out.

Marc Where did you get the 5R barrel for the AR? It is a factory Smith and Wesson M&P15. I have four of them, but the others are 1:8 5r and they all shoot better than I can, out to 500 yds. Marc
