Just checked game cams. Seems about half the bucks have dropped. That's right on time for this area (Breckenridge).

I expect in the next 2 weeks you will see fewer and fewer still carrying the horns. I have seen a few still have their horns in mid April though.
STX may correct me but I seem to remember that physically stressed bucks tend to shed earlier than bucks that come through the Winter in good condition. In bad years I recall seeing bucks that had shed in January.

In Hamilton County I in the late 90s mid April while turkey hunting had 2 mature bucks stroll through one with full head gear still on the other with a couple inches of new growth already. They shed when they shed

I've seen them into April in Mills county. However, I think I have my first known shedder on cam this morning.

I was at my lease 2 days ago and saw 1 buck with horns still. I also saw several pictures of a buck with no horns that appeared to have a broken leg or dislocated shoulder. Not happy.

Had a buck show up earlier today and only had the right side antler remaining. Wishing he would shed the other while I was watching but, nope.

Based on what I'm seeing and reports of what other people are seeing across Texas I would say about 50 percent of deer have shed and another 50 percent have not shed yet. I found my first shed of the year last week.
