If you've spent any time at all chasing turkeys, you've been here. When you have a hot Tom (or 4), and something "hangs them up" just out of range. A creek, a road, a tree line, an imaginary line only the Tom sees, whatever. In this case, it's a barbed wire fence that they hop 2x's a day, every day. Once to come into our pasture in the morning, and the other to go to roost just on the other side of the fence. On this day, well, I guess they wanted me to come to them.

Hung up Tom's

Fence your property on both sides? If yes setup next time closer to it. Not your property setup next time further back from the fence. Had my longest bearded gobbler hang up. the last 45 or so yards took over an hour. The decoys were between me and him but to the side. Once the decoys were straight between me and him he popped over the fence and came right in.

Sometimes shutting up works, stop calling for while then do a cackle has worked a couple times but usually the usual result is just enjoy the show and try again another day.

Using a gobble call has worked out for me couple times in those situations.

Yep. If at all possible, I get at least a hundred yards from these "barriers".

A railroad track is another, even if it has been abandoned for years. lol

I've seen them not want to cross a dirt road with no fence on either side. Then I've seen them fly across a dang river. When they are hot, they will come!
