My family is growing significantly with grandchildren who want to hunt and my blind is getting too small. Currently I have a 6x8 that sits on cinder blocks. I was thinking of going 8x8 and elevating 5 feet. Anyone ever elevate a blind this big?

Plan is to use 4x4 elevator brackets on the corners and add 5 additional 4x4s for a total of 9. Since it’s a lease, I didn’t want to concrete the legs, so I thought I’d use mobile home anchors with steel cable and turn buckles to anchor.

Bad idea to elevate a blind this big and are the anchors enough to keep it from getting blown over in high winds?

I have one blind up the way you describe, and another on a tower about 6'. These have withstood 70 mph winds with no issue. The key to this, do not anchor with cables. Drive t posts right up against the legs at the same angle. Leave about 3' of the t post up and wire the legs to the T posts. I do several double wraps of bailing wire. I've been in them with very high winds, they don't move, at all. [Linked Image]

You can use 2 t posts per leg for your application, four legs. You may need diagonal bracing on your legs. You'll be good.

I also T post the legs and wire t posts to tower frame (high and low on T post) really good. Be sure to do all corners. Don't drive t posts leaving them where you can fall and impale an injury. Cabling and anchors can loosen over time, be rubbed on by livestock and twist and whistle in the wind.

Exactly. My reasoning to run your driver and post along the leg. Plus more surface area to wire to. In the photo's of mine I went back, finished up with my short ladder on the one with wooden legs and wired the crap out of it.

I have used the tpost and along the legs and it works. I also have put a stand over a stump and ratchet strap from the stump to the stand frame above it easy to click a time or two when it loosens. works for tripod stands which is what I started doing that with. EF-0 tornado topped a few trees less than 60 yards form a 4X4 stand on a 6 foot tower and the strap held.

Here’s my 5x7 on 10 foot legs. Total deck size is 7x8 which gives me a nice porch. Elevator brackets are easy, bracing needs to be 2x4’s bolted, not screwed. Anchored with mobile home screw in anchors and wire with turnbuckles. I’ll be building a new all metal platform this year.
