What is your most amazing shot taken while hunting keeping safety in mind? You can credit it to luck, skill, deflection, or whatever. It can include numerous animals, distance, or a bank shot off of a feeder. Lol!!

I've killed running hogs at over 300 yards a couple of times, but none of come close as far as under pressure and getting it done as this shot for me. I have a great lease, but love the challenge of public land. Once a year I put myself here after scouting it in late September/early October. No stand, no feeder and a walk in for me of about 3.5 miles. I lay prone in the grass at a predetermined spot that I walk into in the dark and stay all day if necessary. You don't have a lot of time, and if you don't drop your buck within the gradient boundary you're in for a hassle to say the least.

This one, I see a doe trot out of the brush onto the river bed and immediately got on my gun (rut was on) and sure enough I see horns in my scope. Doe is now on a full run, and turns directly towards me and is running right at me from about 200 yards. The buck is behind, staying right with her. No way I can get a clear shot at the buck, on the run right at me, I raised my head up so he could see me, went right back to my scope and he had turned towards the bank. It was a perfect sight picture that lasted a split second and he was dead. From the time I first saw the doe to the buck being dead was 3-5 seconds.

An unethical shot is one you take, that you know you shouldn't.

350 yard heart shot on nice 10pt down in South Texas with about a 25-30 mph crosswind. The Model 70 Featherweight .30-.06, 150 gr. Core Lokt hit him hard and dropped him about 20 yards into the brush off sendero. Probably my longest shot with little tracking.

Was hunting with some buddies and right at sunset several hundred yards away a turkey got perfectly profiled and backlit by the setting sun. I had an M1A and horse-assing around I pulled it to my shoulder and snapped off a shot the moment I got settled on the rifle. It took the turkey's head right off. My friends looked at me with amazement not realizing that what I had just done was a complete fluke.

Trolling? Heck no, I meant every word of it.

My now ex-wife and I were driving down the dirt road that went thru our lease and a Cottonmouth was crawling across the road. She hates snakes and wanted me to shoot it, all I had was a Ruger Blackhawk but I got out, fired one shot and cut it's head off.
A few years later were were walking up the hill from our front pond on our place and another Cottonmouth crossed out path. This time we only had bow & arrows so I took a shot and hit it in the body first time. I missed it the next two tries and had to cut its head off. The arrow that hit it never did quit stinking.

It may not be that significant to some, but if you saw how unsteady my hands are, it was an accomplishment for me. roflmao

.30-06 off-hand shot on a bobcat at 186 yards (per Google Earth) AND there was still enough to have a nice mount done!

Was gong to say 3 shots that were over 500 yards with 3X9 scope old school before dial scopes were .available or in the means of hunters budget, we are talking 80s and early 90s. Just learn where to hold from practice and knowing the animals anatomy your scope and rifle.

But the cotton mouth post reminded me of a cotton mouth fishing at night. Cotton mouth in a tractor rut where we had been doing some expansion to the pond came out of it at less than 2 feet toward the light in my hand. 22 pistol in the holster on my belt, before I had completed 2 steps back I had shot 3 times all 3 hitting the snake in the head, couple inches behind the head and about 4 inches back of that. My Brother-in-law and cousin that were with me said they never wanted to be in a fast draw contest with me. Happened quick and I just reacted do not really remember drawing or shooting but had witnesses. .

45 years ago while hunting on the Rocker B Ranch in west Texas, my guide and I jumped a nice whitetail. It started
running straight away from us. "Shoot it," said the guide. I leveled my 30/06 on the top of its skull thinking the bullet
would drop somewhere into its body. It was 70 yards away as I pulled the trigger and the buck did not take another step. It went right through
his brain. They guide said that was the best shot he has ever seen in his life. I just smiled knowing I could have
never made that shot again in a million years.

Hit a coyote in the rear at about 120 yards in an open field with a 9mm pistol, first shot. Follow up shots to try to put him down hit 20 -30yards on each side him. It was just a lucky shot.

When I first starting deer hunting as a teenager with my new Marlin 30/30, I had a buck behind me in an open pasture around 200 yards and walking away. I had to twist around at a weird angle to take the shot, scoped myself in the nose, I just remember jerking so bad when I took the shot and seeing scope several inches above the deer when the bullet finally left the barrel. The deer hit the ground with a heart shot. I look like a professional hunter but had to be the most screwed up shot I've ever taken. Lesson's have been learned.

Somewhere around 3/8 to 1/2 mile hunting mulies in New Mexico. Shooting from the top of one mountain across a canyon to another. I held about 4 ft over its back on the first shot and the bullet dropped at its feet. Elevated and got it. Lucky shot. Now, at 80, I can’t even climb a mountain.

When I was 12 years old, I had a chance to take a spike at about 100 yards. I was hunting out of an elevated blind, took the shot and saw the spike go down. After a bit, I climbed down and walked over to my trophy as my grandfather was walking up from the other direction. As he was walking up, he said, "Glad you got a deer, but why did you shoot him where you did?" I responded that it looked like a perfect shot to me and told him it was just behind the shoulder. I was looking at the spike on my side of the bush and it was a perfect shot. The spike on his side of the bush was facing the opposite direction and I had killed 2 spikes with one shot. The problem was that they were facing opposite directions. One was a good shot, while the other was not so great.

Not me, but I saw it. Maybe 40 years ago now and it sticks in my mind. We were out plinking on a ranch in southern OK and decided to take the owners john boat out on the watershed lake. It had a 15 hp outboard and we were running across the lake having fun. A couple of mudhens jumped up and a buddy of mine, who wears thick glasses by the way, casually aimed his .22 pistol in their general direction and fired hitting one of the ducks. We retrieved the duck and it was a perfect neck shot. If given a million chances he would not be able to do it again.

250 yds with a Remington model 7 .223. Doe was quartering away from me, she lowered her head to eat some corn and I shot her in the throat, through / between her front legs, blowed the top of her head clean off mmmm hmmmm. Also won a $20 bet with same gun at same distance shooting a book of matches we nailed to a tree after a buddy with .308 took 2 shots at it and another buddy with 30-06 tried twice too. I hit it first shot.

Full run javelina at 60 yards with a PSE Mach 6 bow. His heart was split into 4 equal pieces by my Muzzy 115. The best part was I had a guy standing next to me who saw the whole thing. Couldn’t have done it again with a million try’s.

Wife was w me, which is rare....maybe once every 3 years she goes

Buck comes out and is ranged at 297, locked down on a doe around 830am

Which happens to be the time she is ready to go home and is hungry, he is a 10 and for this place pretty good

He never moved and almost stood on top of her the whole time

At 1030am she said I am getting out of the stand so either sh$t or get off the pot, I was hoping he would get a little closer

Angle iron rest w a 22-250...he never took a step

Which I love the caliber I just had always kept it 150 and in for WT

And she still acts like that was what I was supposed to do to this day!

He would have pushed 200 lbs live weight...

So for all the 22-250, its a varmint round people...it aint and that isn't the only one I've drug home w it

Crow at 175 yards with the 17 hmr. Big game wise after 40 years and killing almost 100 whitetail and a whack of bears the longest shot i have taken is about 70 yards - so nothing special. Bush up here does not typically lend itself to long shots - most are 40 yards or less.

Killed a snow goose back in the day during duck season. Flock came over our blind and I decided to take a shot. They were waaaaay up there. Picked one out and led it about 20 feet. Killed the third goose behind that one. Dead as a hammer. Head shot. Couldn’t do that again in a million years.

Also center punched a 1” square target sticky with my 4” GP-100 @ 50 yards once. My buddy was sighting in his .30-30 and was hitting all around the center while I was giving him a ration of crap about his shooting abilities. He dared me to take a shot with my wheelgun , so I hauled it out and let one fly. Hit it dead center. Also could not do that again in a million years.

This is a 40 year old story. During spring turkey season I was hunting with my 243 Ruger no. 1. I had a group of toms come out to my feeder, about 125 yards out. I sighted in on the largest bird and fired. He dropped like a stone. I went down to retrieve the bird and looked over and saw a second Tom lying down. The 243 had killed the first gobbler and gone through and broke the legs of the second gobbler. I finished off the second bird with my knife. When I drove the truck in to the rancher‘s home, he saw both birds in the bed. He knew I was hunting with my single shot Ruger and had heard only one shot. He had a devil of a time trying to figure out how I had killed two birds on that one shot. I finally told him the story, which he found hard to believe until I showed him the broken legs on the second bird! Lol

I got a triple on doves once. I'd like to say it wasn't just luck. confused2

Also, had a dove come in head on & I killed it instantly on the first shot. I lowered my gun & caught the dead dove in my left hand as it was falling.

50+ yard shot in the neck of a rottweiler with a Sig P365 (my concealed 9mm) who looked to have bad intentions. Young daughter stepped away to pee while I was skinning a deer in camp and the dog stepped out of the woods and was heading toward her.
