For those much more experienced than myself, how do you cut your knife blanks? Bandsaw, CNC, waterjet, grinder, or something else?

The simplest and most inexpensive option I've seen so far is a portable bandsaw mounted vertically to a table (either homemade or the SWAG table). Do any of you use this setup? If so, how does it compare to the other methods you've used (or seen used)?

Appreciate any knowledge you can throw my way.

If it works for you, then it would definitely work for me!

If you are already dealing with steel that has hardness (rasp, file, spring) a flat cutoff wheel on a grinder to get as close as you can. Then you can grind to profile from there.

I’m using a bench grinder on industrial hacksaw blades but have to go slow.

I do the same as Ben, have been for years. I can profile a blade in less than two minutes. Use 12 tpi blades they cut super fast. If you using hardened steel anneal it first.

I use a hand hacksaw. I am a hobbyist and only make a knife or two a year. I use files the do a stock removal approach. Takes a long time. The knives come out okay. I use Air Quenchable steels and buy the steel and then the heat treatment from Texas Knifemaker's Supply.
