Anybody else count stairsteps? Can't seem to help myself! I even count them getting in and out of my tractor. I think I might be throwed off!

11 is most common in buildings it seems. Why odd? Not sure.

11 is most common in buildings it seems. Why odd? Not sure. In the hotel I’m staying in, the first flight is two rows of 9. The rest, to the top, are all 11. I count everything. It’s a habit from counting turns on gate valves.

It's the old number 13 bugaboo. Most hotels do not have a 13th floor, most motels don't have a room 13.

Counting things (stairs, windows, stripes etc…) is a sign of intelligence, I’m told. I too struggle with repeatedly counting things in my head, but it doesn’t cause any issues for me.

I catch myself counting things like ceiling panels or floor tiles if I'm in a small space like a dr's office.

No but when waiting for a train to go by I might count a few cars but then find the graffiti more interesting. If my wife is with me she will always tell me how many cars there were.

I count ceiling tiles, fan blades, lengths of crown molding, desks in a row, syllables in a song or sentence...

Stair steps in unfamiliar places (hotels).
I count ceiling tiles. Sometimes floor tiles. I notice how floor tiles and ceiling tiles are aligned.
I have some OCD tendencies (just mentioned that in another thread). They are not too bad, and have gotten better with age.
When I get really stressed, it can ramp up.
We all need to practice Whoa more.

I count steps, train cars as they go by, many other items. I also read a reloading manual looking at cartridges, numbers, powders, powder charges, etc, when I'm going #2. I generally buy 2 of the same manuals to keep one in the bathroom.

Compulsive Counting Rituals in OCD About Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder Compulsive counting is a common symptom of obsessive-compulsive disorder. People with counting compulsions may count because they feel that certain numbers have a special significance, and therefore specific actions must be performed a certain number of times. For example many people with OCD feel that the number four is especially significant, and will therefore do things in sets of fours. For example if they smoke one cigarette, they may feel a sense of incompleteness unless they smoke three more. So they will count the number of cigarettes to be sure they have met the numerical goal. Typical types of counting in OCD Counting items Counting footsteps when walking or running Counting aloud Mentally counting things in one's head Counting numbers on devices (i.e. on a digital clock, the run time on the DVD player while trying to watch a movie, etc.) People with counting compulsions may also count without thinking about a specific number. They might count their steps when walking, count tiles on the ceiling, or count cars driving past. The counting may be mental or aloud. People with counting obsessions do not always have a reason for counting. Even though someone who has contamination fears often knows their washing concerns are overboard, they feel usually feel there is a chance the fear is somewhat based on reality. With numbers, the OCD does not always activate because it is worried about a certain outcome. Often taking 4 steps within say one block on the sidewalk, or looking away from a clock at a certain number may just feel right, rather than be driven by fear. Often people with OCD will have a primary subtype, i.e. sexual obsessions, but will have the numbers as more of a secondary problem. In cases like this, it is not as stressful or intrusive.

Yep, I count steps. Headed up to the top of the heaters on the cracking plants, someone wrote the amount of steps at every floor. Some funny guy even put only 205 more steps to go at the first landing. That really made that 1-1/2" impact seem heavier knowing you were headed to the top.
